The individual will work with scientists, engineers, and programmers to conduct experiments and develop analytical and computational models on the effects of optical radiation on materials and tissues. They will apply general physical principles, evaluate experimental and simulation results, and model physical phenomena. This is a full-time position based at the Air Force Research Laboratory at JBSA Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
- Conduct research on the interaction of optical radiation with materials and tissue.
- Develop models, both analytical and computational, based on experimental and simulation results.
- Collaborate with colleagues on development and code implementation of models, and validation of model results with experimental data.
- Consult on physical science aspects of projects as needed. Communicate results both orally and in writing.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree & 2 years of experience; OR Master's or Ph.D. in a physics, mathematics or software engineering discipline.
- Experience with laboratory techniques and experimental design.
- Experience with coding and software development in a scientific research setting. Ability to develop and execute computational models of physical phenomena, such as problems relating to thermodynamics, photon transport, and shockwave propagation.
- Familiarity and proficiency with Python and C++ programming languages.
- Recommend familiarity with High Performance Computing (HPC) environments, shell (Bash) scripting. Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity where analysis of situations or data requires a review of the variety of factors.
