Compressor Technician
Location: Dover, DE

What you'll be working on...
Responsible for maintenance of compressor stations. Perform or supervise any major maintenance or overhauls on compressors or engines. Maintain inventory of spare parts and compressor oil and antifreeze. Perform preventative maintenance of compressors. This will include but not limited to:
  • Adjusting engine valves as required
  • Check or clean spark plugs
  • Change air filters as required
  • Take engine and compressor oil samples for analysis
  • Change compressor and engine oil and filters per analysis
  • Grease all lube points
  • Check all V-belts
  • periodic check of all accessory systems on compressors
  • periodic check of piping connections and anchor bolts
  • periodic check of compressor valves, rings and packing
  • Maintain monthly reports on maintenance checks
  • Perform or schedule semi-annual checks on station fire and gas detection systems and fire suppression systems
  • Perform or schedule annual maintenance checks on station meters, regulators, valves, valve operators, station inlet scrubber, roof fans, air compressors, etc.
  • Responsible for operation of Company's compressors as directed by Compression Manager, including participation in on-call rotation
  • Schedule and coordinate shutdowns of station for maintenance
  • Assist in performance of annual emissions stack testing and other periodic testing
  • Assist in maintaining emissions inventory reports and participate in regular State environmental inspections
  • Assist in maintaining station operations in compliance with all permit requirements
  • Complete and file essential documentation
  • Perform other duties as necessary within the department and business unit to fulfill the obligations and responsibilities of the department in meeting its goals, objectives, and strategies
  • Perform other duties as required

Who you are:
Associates Degree or equivalent electrical and mechanical experience; at least three years working experience in natural gas operations and maintenance or equivalent experience; mechanical and electrical aptitude; at least three years experience in compressor/engine operation and maintenance. Meets operator qualification requirements. Complete all Operator Qualification training and test requirements.
  • General pipeline compressor station operations and maintenance
  • General ESNG pipeline system operations
  • SCADA communication system installation and troubleshooting
  • Flow computer and corrector installation and troubleshooting
  • Electrical system installation and troubleshooting
  • Pneumatic system installation and troubleshooting
  • Codes and specifications including electrical, mechanical, pipeline, etc.
  • Compressor and engine maintenance and repair procedures
  • Calibration of pressure and temperature transmitters
  • Operation and maintenance of station control system - SCADA
  • Operation and maintenance of station UPS system
  • Operation and maintenance of station ESD and Fire/Gas Detection systems
  • Meter and regulator maintenance and repair procedures
  • Valve and valve operator maintenance and repair procedures

Working Conditions
  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS: Company vehicle, Company assigned tools, responsible for safe operation of the Company's compression facilities and minimizing compressor downtime.
  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR MATERIALS: Coordinate operation of station with Gas Control Department. Responsible for maintaining inventory of spare parts, oils and antifreeze. Responsible for maintaining station security.
  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR DIRECTION AND INSTRUCTION OF OTHERS: Responsible for safe operation of compressor station.
  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR SAFETY OF OTHERS:
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position can have extreme physical demands. Position requires walking and lifting. Primarily field work.

HAZARDS: Working around a potentially explosive material, hazardous waste, heavy equipment and high-pressure gas.
