The Competitive Intelligence (CI) Manager will be part of the CI team that provides insights to help reduce uncertainties and build optimal business decisions. The CI Manager is responsible for assisting with the Competitive Intelligence process through collection and generation of strategic competitive analysis and insights across specific disease areas under the general direction of the CI team leadership. The position will also assist with other tasks (i.e., admin, strategic, team-related, etc.) as needed.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for working with current team member(s) and assisting with the CI process ethically and compliantly from planning to collection and analysis for specific disease area(s)
- Contribute to generating strategic and actionable CI insights aligned with business objectives to the cross-functional disease teams, Executive Committee and other Commercial Leadership
- Responsible for helping provide timely, accurate competitor insights and early warning using multiple sources and identifying the potential impact to Vertex
- Align closely with cross functional team members and stakeholders to define the CI scope
- Assist on conference CI efforts from planning through post-event deliverables/reports
- Assist in managing CI vendor relationships and provide direction to ensure project success
- Assist in CI input to Brand Planning, Long-Range Planning and other business work streams
- Participate in other Global Commercial Strategy initiatives, such as planning exercises, which will help provide insights into market, competitor dynamics
Required Education Level
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in life sciences
Required Experience
- Typically requires 2+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- Typically requires 1+ years of competitor intelligence or other insight generation experience (i.e., healthcare consulting, market research, strategy consulting, junior financial analyst focused on biotech/pharma/med device) or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior healthcare CI experience is desirable, though not mandatory
Required Knowledge/Skills
- Ability to understand and analyze business, scientific and medical data in a timely manner
- Grasp of the pharmaceutical industry and scientific concepts
- Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written in a concise manner to CI team members, leadership and across multiple business functions
- Has basic ability to collect information from various sources (i.e., databases, scientific congress websites, PubMed, financial analyst reports, syndicated reports, etc.) and generate insights, make recommendations which directly relate to key tactical and strategic questions for internal stakeholders and relevant to Vertex's development programs
- Experience and confidence working in a fast-paced matrix environment
- Natural curiosity and ability to work independently under minimal direction
