Position Details: 

Stewards Individual Placements, a program of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. The Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) Program combines the strength of a national leader in conservation service with the National Park Service to train a diverse group of emerging leaders to assist park units in building lasting connections to communities. 

Timpanogos Cave is seeking a candidate passionate about volunteerism and community engagement to act as a member of the community outreach team, recruit and train volunteers, and assist in managing volunteer programs. 

 

Site Description 

Timpanogos Cave National Monument is a beautiful 250-acre park located just up canyon from large metropolitan areas.  The park has three caves that can be toured by the public, a few hiking trails, a busy visitor center, and a growing education and outreach program. Timpanogos runs six thriving volunteer groups that work primarily in interpretation and resource management.  There will be opportunities to visit and work with our sister parks – Golden Spike National Historical Park and Fossil Butte National Monument as well. 

 

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in recruiting and training youth volunteers to help preserve the cave 
  • Mentor high school youth volunteers to help them understand potential park careers 
  • Assist in recruiting and training adult volunteers for the interpretation, resource, and maintenance divisions 
  • Assist in teaching seasonal volunteers and community members about the park resources and safety concerns 
  • Create web content for the volunteer pages of the park website 
  • Create social media content featuring volunteers and community partnerships 
  • Work with the various park divisions to create position descriptions for their volunteer needs and then recruit for said positions 
  • Work with the various divisions to create an understanding of how volunteers can be used and the proper process for onboarding 
  • Attend community outreach events such as festivals and parades 

CVA Minimum Requirements: 

  • Enjoys working with people 
  • Creative thinker and a team player 
  • Participate in the CVA National Early Service Training in late March/early April 2024 (date TBD) 
  • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.  
  • Be 18-30 years old at time of service (veterans up to 35 years old) 
  • High School Diploma/GED  
  • Pass fingerprint-based FBI, state criminal, and a national sex offender checks.   
  • Be able to provide proof of a driver’s license and complete a MVR check 
  • Must be over 21 years old or have had license for at least 3 years to be insured in this position 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Local applicants preferred 
  • Public speaking experience 
  • Computer savvy with Microsoft programs and social media 

 

Additional Information: 

The applicant will work some weekend days during the busy summer months, they also may be able to telework occasionally during winter months.  

The applicant will be able to use a government vehicle to drive to sister parks while working there.  

The provided house is a Mission 66 style house with three bedrooms and a shared common area. The applicant will have their own bedroom and bathroom. The house has limited internet. There is cell phone service for those with AT&T only.
