Job Description SummaryThe city of Goodyear Fire Department is looking for a Community Risk Reduction Specialist to join the team. This position will perform a variety of professional duties including providing Community Risk Reduction education, awareness, and injury prevention programs for schools, businesses, children, adolescents, and adults. Maintain contact with community members, mental health, social services, legal, public safety, and other professional organizations in the community.

Work is performed with considerable independence. Complete work in the area of public speaking and instruction to promote safeguards toward Community Risk Reduction.The ideal candidate will possess two years of experience in presenting Fire Life-Safety programs to children and young adults, K - 8 elementary school students. The ideal candidate must have the ability to function alone or in a team environment, that can be fast paced.

The ideal candidate must be able to provide excellent customer service and be able to embrace the Department's Community Risk Reduction (CRR) programs such as home visits, fall prevention, residential lock boxes, safety and drowning prevention to name a few. Additionally, the successful ideal candidate will possess some or all of the following certificates: Child Passenger Safety (CPS) technician, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Instructor certification, and/or Fire Life Safety Educator 1 certification.At the City of Goodyear, you will be a part of an organization that values its employees as its greatest asset. Essential FunctionsThis information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following functions do not identify all duties performed by the incumbent. Other duties and responsibilities will be performed as assigned.* Provide program development and delivery by designing and implementing projects and various programs to include Risk Reduction/injury prevention with the Fire Pal program.

As a certified Child Passenger Safety (CPS) technician, participates in Child Passenger Safety programs for residents and statewide events. As a CPR/CCC instructor, instructs an accredited and approved CPR/AED, first aid training, courses for City employees, businesses, and students. Conduct tours of fire stations while providing Risk Reduction safety messages to participants.

Instruct Fire Extinguisher training courses for city employees, businesses, and students using a Fire Extinguisher simulator. Participate in the department's residential lock box program throughout the City. Participate in seminars, conferences, ceremonies, and other special events sponsored by the department and the city, as well as other events around the state.* Promote community relationships in support of community education by presenting Risk Reduction/injury prevention information, working with and training fire department personnel in program delivery, interacting and communicating with various groups and individuals, including City employees, teachers, community organizations, merchants, vendors, and residents.* Provide resource management by making a continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work jointly, providing quality customer service.* Performs other duties as needed.Requirements* Formal Education/Knowledge: Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.

Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.* Experience: Minimum one year of experience in a Fire Life-Safety program(s) or a closely related field.* Certifications and Other Requirements: Valid Driver's License. Obtain within 1 year of hire, CPS (Child Passenger Safety) technician. Obtain within 1 year of hire, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) instructor certificate.

Obtain within 1 year of hire, Fire Life Safety Educator 1 certificate.* Reading:Work requires the ability to read instruction manuals, procedures, various statistical information, growth trends, letters, memorandum, and general correspondence.* Math:Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as create statistical graphs and charts.* Writing:Work requires the ability to write press releases, curriculum, design programs and projects, articles for internal and external news articles, brochures, and training materials.* Managerial: Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others but may provide advice/direction to an employee or volunteers with less experience/skill or tenure.* Policy/Decision Making:Significant - The employee normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. More complex work as well as decisions with more significant impacts may be reviewed prior to being finalized.* Technical Skills:Comprehensive Application - Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization.

Limited analysis and independent thinking is utilized.* Interpersonal/Human Relations Skills:High - In addition to the sharing of information, interactions at this level may also include providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies/procedures. In many of the interactions, contacts may require the consideration of different points of view to reach agreement. Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas.12 Month Objectives* 12 MONTH OBJECTIVES* Obtain a Child Passenger Safety (CPS) technician certificate to assist with, and to install, child safety seats.* Obtain a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) instructor certificate to assist with, and to instruct, CPR classes.* Obtain a Fire Life Safety Educator 1 certificate to promote professional development.* Compile a spreadsheet of the most used materials and handouts for inventory reasons and to assign to appropriate events.* Compile a list of all schools (public, private, and charter) with the estimated student enrollment for goal setting and tracking.* Attend at least four (4) special events to assist with a safety booth.
