Position Summary:
YMCA of Greater Houston Community OutreachProgram Director supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA Community Outreach program(s) focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility throughout the Greater Houston area. The Community OutreachProgram Director will create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while building community with families through a sense of belonging and connection. This position will enthusiastically represent the Y by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job.
The Community OutreachProgram Director will be responsible for supervisory and administrative tasks in overseeing the successful implementation of one of our key Community Outreach initiative, Y on the Fly . The position will be responsible for providing leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of The Y on the Fly programming that is heavily focused on STEM and sports, and delivered to youth through mobile van units. The Outreach Director will provide association leadership in Y on the Fly STEM curriculum and instruction and identify innovate practices to enhance the quality of the program for students.
Essential Functions:
  1. Program Quality: Provides oversight and coordinates high-quality Community Outreach programs for assigned location(s), in adherence to Y program model, curriculum and quality standards. Implements Community Outreach programs that may include food distribution, food pantries, enrichment programs and community opportunity sites. Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives and ensures programs adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and program standards.
  2. Program Compliance: Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and risk management policies are followed.
  3. Program Planning & Innovation: Assist staff in planning, organizing, and implementing age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities Fosters innovation by recognizing and sharing new and relevant ideas. Demonstrates courageous and intelligent risk taking. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the communities through innovative program development and in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  4. Staff Development: Recruits, hires, and trains required program staff needed to meet Y staffing ratios. Reviews and evaluates staff performance and develops strategies to motivate staff to achieve program goals.
  5. Fiscal Management: Adheres to responsible fiscal stewardship, including managing all accounts receivables and accounts payable related to site budgets. Manage payroll related transactions and monitors for accuracy and completion. Ensures program operates within budget and meets fiscal goals through forecasting and budget monitoring.
  6. Marketing & Promotion: Implements marketing strategies to promote program growth and brand exposure to the targeted communities and families. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information and schedule program registrations.
  7. Community Engagement: Builds and maintains relationship with families through consistent communication including parent orientations, newsletters, parent conferences and parent engagement events. Implements Community Outreach programs that may include food distribution, food pantries, enrichment programs and community opportunity sites.
  8. Center Engagement: Actively participates in YMCA center activities, meetings, and staff trainings. Intentionally collaborates with center program staff. Develop and maintain good working relationships with the directors, staff, parents and families by way of open communication, positive problem solving, flexibility, and teamwork.
  9. Relationship Building: Develops and maintains strong relationships with community partners, funders, school administration, parent and community groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  10. Program Evaluation: Collects necessary qualitative and quantitative data needed to monitor program evaluation and measure program effectiveness. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program and make adjustment to program as needed.
  11. Annual Campaign: Participates in the annual fundraising campaign and committees as assigned at the center and meets staff campaign goals. Supports direct staff in their participation in the annual fundraising campaign.
  12. Project Teams: Participates in project teams related to advancing the strategic vision and goals of youth development department.
  13. Child Abuse Prevention: Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements. Ensures youth are properly signed in and signed out, ensures only authorized adults are allowed in the facility, etc. Adheres to policies related to boundaries with each child.

Job Requirements:
  • 3-5 years previous experience including 2 years supervisory experience in licensed childcare, preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent (preferred)
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Available for trainings on occasional weekends and after hours

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Possess adequate vision and hearing to safely monitor environment and effective communicate with members.
The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions during the day camp program. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is occasionally exposed to nature, animals, fumes and airborne particles, toxic, or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and/or blood.

TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local between assigned centers during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Flexible with scheduling and available to work operational hours of the YMCA, which may include day, evening, weekends, and/or holidays, based on the center needs.
