I. PROJECT SUMMARY AND CONSULTANT ROLE

Equal Rights Advocates is a national civil rights nonprofit focused on gender justice based in San Francisco-based with key personnel to this project in Washington DC. ERA is dedicated to protecting and expanding economic and educational access and opportunities for women and girls, with a focus on communities of color and others most impacted by inequities. Learn more at www.equalrights.org .

ERA’s Family Voices Amplified Initiative (https://www.equalrights.org/issue/economic-workplace-equality/family-voices-amplified/) began as deep listening of Black and Latinx family breadwinners in 16-cities across the country about their needs emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic. This initial phase surfaced critical learnings about barriers to women and families. Top concerns included lack of affordable and quality childcare, job and income insecurity, and debt. You can find our results from that phase of the project at Family Voices Amplified Overview - Equal Rights Advocates.

Equal Rights Advocates is conducting a nationwide search for a Consultant to support Phase Two of the project conducting workshops with Black and Latinx family breadwinners developing narratives centering communities most impacted by inequities as leaders for change. We rolled out the first iteration of this project at the height of the pandemic, resulting in a mixed-methods approach that surveyed nearly 1000 Black and Latinx women breadwinners from key cities nationwide. This phase of the project wants to dig deeper into the stories and themes from these communities now that ‘normal’ has returned. What do these families need? How do they envision reform that makes room for them? And, ultimately, what do they want decision-makers to know about them? We want this phase of the project to take ‘nothing about us, without us’ to heart – shifting power away from the center to the margins, to the people experiencing the harm of unaddressed structural inequity and ultimately framing those needs into recommendations for systemic change.

Equal Rights Advocates seeks proposals for the following consultant to meet project deliverables for our Family Voices Amplified project going into 2024. The Consultant may be based anywhere in the United States.

Community Outreach Consultant
This consultant will work closely with our Campaigns, Communications, Development, and Policy teams, and at this time, reporting to our National Campaign Director.
