Position: Community Organizer (Recruitment & Outreach)
Reports to: Manager of Volunteer Recruitment and Outreach
Status: Full-time/Hourly Non-exempt
Location: Hybrid, flexible work environment - remote, events throughout Los Angeles County and on location at Edmund D. Edelman Children's Courthouse
Salary: $26-28/hour, benefits eligible

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
CASA of Los Angeles organizes the community to show up for children and families in LA County's overburdened child welfare and juvenile justice systems. Through an intentional, restorative and culturally responsive lens, we train committed, consistent and caring adults who provide equitable access to resources and life-affirming connections. CASA/LA strengthens our community, ensuring that children and families have what they need to thrive. CASA/LA is on a path to expand services to 12,000 of the estimated 30,000 children in the LA County's dependency system every year. Key to these efforts is growth in the number of people who know about CASA/LA, the number of volunteers recruited and trained each year, and revenue generated from individuals, foundations, corporations and government sources.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the manager of volunteer recruitment and outreach, the Community Organizer will support the organization's efforts to recruit volunteers and raise awareness of CASA/LA throughout Los Angeles County. The Community Organizer will be required to travel throughout the county, with a regular base at CASA/LA's Monterey Park office. This position requires regular evening and weekend engagements for which schedule adjustments are made.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate CASA volunteer information sessions, both in-person and virtual
  • Review volunteer applications for errors, omissions, and clarity
  • Track and maintain all applicant touchpoints in web-based case management system, including: inquiries, communication, applications, and event participation
  • Complete regular (weekly, monthly) follow-ups with potential applicants
  • Research, coordinate, and create outreach and recruitment opportunities
  • Represent CASA at community events
  • Identify and engage with the community to raise awareness of CASA/LA by posting flyers, displaying brochures, giving presentations, or other ways of gaining visibility
  • Assist and collaborate with the development team's efforts regarding fundraising events
  • Collaborate with R&O team by providing feedback to improve policies and procedures
  • Identify partnership opportunities with community businesses/organizations
  • Meet with current and potential partners and volunteers to support recruitment efforts.
  • Organize CASA "street teams," including volunteers and staff, to support and provide visibility at community events
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in managing the volunteer@casala.org account
  • Assist in tracking outreach efforts in ETO, including entering organizations, events, and individuals
  • Assist in updating the outreach calendar on the CASA of LA website
  • Conduct interviews with potential volunteers

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience involving community outreach or volunteer recruitment
  • Public speaking experience, in-person and virtually
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively
  • Comfortable working and engaging in diverse public settings
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to create and maintain accurate records
  • Proficient in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Prezi, and electronic databases
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and be highly flexible and resourceful
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in organizing and coordinating grass-roots, face-to-face, and technology-based recruitment efforts
  • Experience in the field of child welfare, juvenile justice, non-profit or volunteer program management
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
This position is hybrid, with time spent remotely, in the office, and in the community. It involves intermittent physical activities, including standing, bending, reaching, lifting, sitting, speaking, and walking.
