Organization Overview

The Bloc envisions a Chicago where every young person has the tools needed to be the champion of their own life. To achieve this in our community, we cultivate the love of boxing to share transformational resources with Chicago’s West Side youth and communities.

Youth in our program have maintained 100% high school graduation and college acceptance rates since 2016 while training to become championship boxers. Through our direct community support initiatives, we distribute over 6,000 pounds of fresh produce to our neighbors monthly while also providing household supplies and seasonal items. By partnering with youth and our community, we create the conditions for harmony and prosperity.

 

Community Organizer

The Community Organizer will strengthen The Bloc’s connections with community organizations, neighbors, partners, and stakeholders to communicate and deliver transformative resources and opportunities to our youth and community. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Relationship Building: Build and maintain meaningful relationships with community members, local organizations, and leaders to support and deliver impactful services that meet community needs
  • Resource Mobilization: Identify resources and relationships, such as local businesses, grants, and partnerships, to support community initiatives
  • Community Events: Support the creation and implementation of a variety of community events, workshops, meetings, and activations based on community feedback and needs
  • Community Partnerships: Create processes to recruit, engage, and assess partnerships that deliver transformative resources to our community
  • Volunteer Management: Create and execute a comprehensive volunteer recruitment, activation, and retention strategy
  • Data Collection: Collect and report data on community needs, concerns, and successes
  • Thought Leadership: Represent The Bloc externally through community engagements, public events, thought leadership, and media appearances

 

Working Conditions:

Full-Time

This position requires frequent off-site locations

Occasional non-standard working hours (evenings, weekends) may be necessary to complete job duties

 

Compensation:

Salary: Starting at $56,000, depending on experience

Benefits: 70-80% Health Insurance Coverage, Flexible time off, up to 4% 401k match after the eligibility period

Location: The Bloc, 1345 N Karlov Avenue, Chicago, IL 60651.  Remote work is broadly accepted after initial onboarding.
