The high level:
The Community Engagement Manager (CEM) is part of an energetic team of relationship builders working together to leverage Reading Partners’ mission in the community. The CEM’s main role is to lead, develop, and mobilize a team to recruit, train, celebrate, and retain a diverse portfolio of volunteers to serve as literacy tutors in our reading centers. Reporting directly to the Community Engagement Director in Tulsa, the CEM manages the overall volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies for the region. The CEM is organized, data-informed, goal-oriented, and a strong communicator.
What you’ll do:
Each fiscal year, develop and execute on a comprehensive community engagement strategy to successfully reach or exceed volunteer recruitment, retention, and training goals
Ensure Tulsa meets or exceeds its volunteer recruitment goal of 1000+ volunteers
Ensure the region retains 40%+ of volunteers year over year
Ensure the region achieves a volunteer satisfaction goal of 95%
Lead a team of Community Engagement Associates
Coach, manage, and train each Community Engagement Associate
Ensure CEAs execute regional engagement strategies and meet or exceed goals
Generate opportunities to empower team members to own more of their work so they can grow and develop professionally
Execute on many aspects of a comprehensive community engagement strategy to meet/exceed
Manage initial and ongoing tutor onboarding, training and orientations for both Reading Partners Traditional (RPT) and Reading Partners Connects (RPCx) tutors.
Regularly audit and maintain records for prospective, new, and existing volunteers
Analyze data through ACM and volunteer feedback surveys and by generating Salesforce reports to inform strategy
Ensure that volunteers are moving through the system quickly and make adjustments as necessary
Manage and execute annual regional campaigns, Commit to the Next Chapter and Refer-A-Friend
Create and execute additional opportunities for volunteer engagement and recruitment through community events, workshops, volunteer newsletters, celebration events, etc.
Maintain direct communication and actively collaborate with our Program team
Create and facilitate Reading Partners’ AmeriCorps Orientation and ongoing AmeriCorps training(s), as well as on tutor coaching and performance management resources
Assist Community Engagement Director with building a sustainable pipeline of prospect CE partners
Collaborate closely with the Executive Director, Senior External Relations Manager, and local development staff to drive Reading Partners’ external brand
Form relationships with tutors who can speak on behalf of Reading Partners
Review and approve volunteer communications
Provide talking points and impact numbers for grant and fundraising efforts

Leadership & Management:
Demonstrate a genuine interest in coaching, inspiring, and developing emerging professionals as they pursue the region’s goals. Demonstrate an ability to provide clear guidance and goals, to delegate, and to provide growth opportunities while supporting progress along the way. Be able to recruit, hire, onboard, and deliver high-quality training to AmeriCorps members and volunteers. Support our emerging national network of Community Engagement Managers and other community engagement staff.
Relationship Development & Collaboration:
Leverage existing relationships and build new transformational relationships in the community. Establish highly collaborative cross-functional relationships and work effectively with all internal stakeholders for both organizational fundraising and program delivery. Celebrate wins with all stakeholders.
Communication:
Build and maintain strong systems for communication and messaging, tailor communication to audiences, and contextualize messaging. Demonstrate a strong aptitude for effective communication, remotely and in person, with direct reports, school stakeholders, and Reading Partners staff. Be able to conduct difficult conversations with grace and ease.
Project Management:
Create innovative solutions in the face of competition for resources, time, etc. with a high degree of adaptability and flexibility. Anticipate challenges and/or questions and proactively execute solutions. Understand larger strategic priorities and make measurable progress against these larger goals. Be able to make sound decisions that consider all stakeholders. See the bigger picture and also drill down to smaller details to “connect the dots.”
About you!
You’ll be successful in this role if you:
Demonstrate knowledge of the Tulsa education landscape and broader community
Have 4+ years of progressive experience in education, leadership, customer service, marketing, client management, community organizing, or similar field
Have direct management experience of volunteers, interns, and/or emerging professionals
Have database management experience and a high level of comfort with MS Office and Google Suite.
Have access to reliable transportation to travel within a defined geographic region on a daily basis
Have flexibility and adaptability in work style and work schedule, including some nights and weekends
Prove eligibility to work in the U.S. legally
Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience. This is a full-time exempt position. Salary for this position is $49,250 - $52,000 annually.

Travel: This position travels regularly throughout Tulsa. This position may also involve occasional travel to Reading Partners’ National Headquarters in Oakland, CA.
