Description: Downtown Boise Association (DBA) seeks a Community Engagement Manager who understands DBA’s vision and the importance of our role in keeping Downtown Boise a vibrant, attractive, engaging destination. The Community Engagement Manager understands how solid logistics planning, strong communication, and creativity make the downtown experience successful. You will join a collaborative team of four other staff members and a slate of interns who are setting the course for the future of downtown.

This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with staff, the Downtown Maintenance Team, stakeholders and partners, and both the DBA and Downtown Boise Foundation (DBF) Boards in a variety of roles as described below.

Work Environment & Schedule: Must be able to successfully work both independently and collaboratively in an office setting, throughout downtown, and on-site for events. Work schedule is typically Monday through Friday but does require work on evenings and weekends based on event and activation schedules. The position is expected to average 40 hours a week.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Management and on-site execution of events including but not limited to Alive After 5, Father’s Day Car Show, Holiday Tree Lighting, City Santa, and Glide on Grove.
  • Assist Activation Manager with activations.
  • Event planning including but not limited to: scout and evaluate locations; communicate with businesses and other events that may be impacted; coordinate with contractors and vendors; integrate sponsor needs; keep staff informed on event details, brainstorming as needed; obtain necessary permits, licenses, and insurance.
  • On-site event management including but not limited to: work with contractors and vendors to ensure proper set-up, tear-down, and in-progress operations; problem-solve on the spot, recognize and address potential issues before they become dilemmas; manage events to maintain a high-quality experience for everyone; research and add surveys and data collection efforts as appropriate.
  • Work with staff, vendors, and community to complete post-mortem event reviews, gather feedback, and brainstorm event adjustments.
  • Co-manage DBA assets and inventory for events and activations.
  • Work with Executive Director to develop and manage event budgets.
  • Serve as a member of the City of Boise’s Special Events Committee in conjunction with the Activation Manager to review upcoming downtown events and their impact on the community.
  • Work closely with the City of Boise, Ada County, and State of Idaho to stay up to date and maintain compliance with all permitting requirements and ordinances.
  • Recruit and manage interns.
  • Liaise with outside event producers and offer assistance to improve the quality of other downtown events.
  • Attend, inform, and present to Board Members about events updates & projects; co-lead the DBA/DBF Events & Activities Working Group.
  • Act as the liaison alongside the Executive Director to sponsors and prospects, helping identify and cultivate event and activation partners.
  • Act as a DBA member/business liaison; strengthen relationships with all members.
  • Assist DBA member businesses and partners to help identify concerns, troubleshoot solutions, and recognize opportunities; maintain positive relationships with businesses, partners, stakeholders, and DBA team.
  • Participate in outreach and welcome new downtown businesses with informational orientations about DBA, DBF, and Business Improvement District services.
  • Foster and cultivate a sense of inclusivity continually working to make DBA/DBF and other downtown activities as welcoming, inclusive, accessible, and equitable as possible.
  • Assist with all events and promotions; other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years experience as an events manager with corresponding logistics, planning, and day-of responsibilities (community events preferred.)
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple, ever-changing priorities, personalities, and deadlines.
  • Driven to think outside the box, be creative, and try new things.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and knowledge of Google software and Slack. Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Creative Cloud a plus.
  • Experience in a non-profit environment a plus.
  • Familiarity and connections to current industry trends related to urban development, placemaking, and the arts a plus.
