Summary Statement
Community Engagement is dedicated to fostering deeper connections, empowerment, and engagement through innovative ways, to fulfill the city's vision to create a city for everyone. Develops and coordinates authentic and innovative Community Engagement strategies for the City of Boise.The Community Engagement Coordinator serves as a partner to the community by being a trusted resource to the city's strategic priorities (climate action, transportation, and housing), and an active listener who is continually engaged with feedback from Boise residents and businesses. A willingness to increase resident engagement, strong written and verbal communication, and a creative approach to problem-solving are all essential parts of the position. Works with considerable independent judgment.
Essential Functions
Creates, plans, and facilitates input gathering, community outreach activities, and volunteer programs for major projects and initiatives. Envisions input and outreach strategies and executes a plan using a variety of public information-gathering techniques. Oversees and manages volunteers and/or interns. Focuses on the engagement and input from our diverse community. Helps lead how the city measures engagement and thinks strategically about where to align effort and resources to get the best return on investment for the community. (45%)Develops and helps execute outreach, communication, and education to support City of Boise programs and services. Provides ongoing communication advice and guidance to team members in crafting appropriate messages and outreach tactics that support the organization's goals and outreach needs. Works collaboratively to ensure messaging is aligned citywide. (25%)
Under supervision of the Marketing Manager, helps oversee the full life cycle of projects, from initial brainstorming with stakeholders, to development of engagement plans that support a project's communication/marketing plan, to execution, to providing timely status updates, and a final analysis of results. Copywrites and edits all major initiative Community Engagement related content. Develops and updates annual content calendar with important communication events and periods. Works directly with consultants to ensure materials generated meet city brand and quality standards. (20%)
Pursues new and better ways to do our work and engage with the public. Seeks out innovation in the department's internal processes, Community Engagement, and communication tools and methods. Develops proposals and recommendations for department leadership on both internal and external improvements. (10%)

Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And TrainingBachelor's Degree and two years experience in Community Engagement, communication, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Level of Knowledge; Functional knowledge and practical understanding##Community engagement techniques and strategies, social media, graphics, and word processing programs;##General business office and telephone etiquette, equipment, and procedures;##Computer operations including contemporary and related software applications;##Record-keeping and filing practices; general customer service techniques.
Ability to: build community relationships, coordinate and organize multiple programs; proofread and edit written material; write with clarity and accuracy; communicate effectively with internal and external customers; prioritize workload; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies, and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; and perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.
Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Bachelor's degree in communications or related field, and three years of experience managing and coordinating communication, and Community Engagement projects from concept to execution, including content creation and social media campaigns. Developing and carrying out communication plans and working with graphic designers throughout the development process. Experience supporting environmental, sustainability, or climate change communications, programs, and/or campaigns. Spanish language skills a plus.
