General Purpose:
The primary purpose of this position is to establish and strengthen relationships within refugee and immigrant communities in the greater Akron area. The Community Ambassador will primarily support the International Welcome Center and its clients by leading the registration of new clients, working with volunteers to make the first home visit and make appropriate referrals. The Community Ambassador will also work closely with the Reception and Placement Case Manager and Community Coordinator to coordinate and schedule delivery of donations and services and support the families and volunteers as appropriate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate the onboarding process when registering new clients
- Conduct home visits and assess the needs of new clients and their families
- Determine and coordinate appropriate services for clients
- Gather necessary client information and complete required documentation
- Maintain and update accurate client/refugee information
- Ensure volunteer access to appropriate internal documents
- Serve as Point Person for families when there is not a volunteer for this role
- Communicate with refugee clients using WhatsApp, translating services, etc.
- Refer clients to outside resources when they need a service the IWC does not directly provide
- Support the Community Coordinator in creating and implementing client engagement events such as community health and resource fairs, create awareness of various community events and opportunities that support client integration and empowerment
- Assist Community Coordinator to maintain accurate resource list of community resources
Education & Experience:
- Experience with working with refugee and immigrant populations with limited English proficiency
- Ability to read, write and speak English is required; bilingual preferred, but not required.
- Experience in social services or related fields desired but not required
- Experience working with and organizing volunteers
- Strong written and oral communication is required
- Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and be insurable by insurance policies
- Must clear a background check
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.50 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 28 per week
