Position Purpose:The Communications Specialist drives visibility for The Guarini School for Graduate and Advanced Studies and its students by informing and engaging varying audiences (prospective students, current students, alumni, faculty, and staff) about policies, initiatives, and activities. They foster camaraderie and pride within Dartmouth’s graduate community through strategic communication efforts, both internally and externally.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field
- Demonstrated excellence in writing and editing complex content based on target audience, with ability to provide context and/or reshape material as needed in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
- Experience or ability to learn key communications technologies, including Canva, Word Press, Drupal, Imodules, and third-party email systems.
- Basic ability to take photos, create basic videos, and other media.
- Demonstrated initiative, outcome-driven, resourceful, and committed to excellence.
- Highly organized and skilled at managing multiple projects simultaneously with tact.
- Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience working in communications.
- Previous work experience in higher education.

Description:Content Development:
- Creates engaging and on-brand content across various channels, including newsletters, websites, social media, video, spotlights, infographics, and presentations.
- Contributes to the production of the bi-weekly student newsletter and bi-annual alumni newsletter. Drives performance improvements through the design and execution of A/B tests for messages and newsletters.
- Takes photos and creates basic videos for use on social media channels and the website.

Description:Website Management
- Maintains and updates the Guarini website, ensuring timely posting of news stories and content development.
- Develops engaging website content, including Q&A-style interviews, feature stories, and news items.
- Conducts content audits to optimize relevance and accuracy.
- Creates site maps for effective navigation and contributes to web redesign activities, including content migration.

Description:Coordination and Collaboration
- Collaborates with stakeholders across Guarini and the graduate community to gather and modify content for newsletters.
- Works with stakeholders to update website content, improve user-friendly architecture, and ensure accessibility of all content, including PDFs.

Description:Editing
- Maintains alignment with Dartmouth’s brand guidelines for all messages, newsletters, websites, and materials.
- Sources and edits images for newsletter and online platforms.
- Assumes the role of chief copyeditor, ensuring accuracy and consistency in written content.

Description:Analysis
- Generates monthly reports analyzing newsletter and website performance metrics, including opens, clicks, and other relevant factors.
- Conducts tests and provides recommendations to enhance the overall performance of newsletters and websites.
