Education and Experience:
College coursework in marketing, advertising, digital media or related field and 2 years of experience in copy writing, editing, SEO optimization, and Adobe Suite OR a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Marketing, Advertising, Digital Media.
Experience using HTML, CSS, XML to develop and format web enabled training products is a plus.

COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST I
Department: Administration - Communications

JOB SUMMARY
This is an entry-level position assisting Communications Department staff in informing, engaging, and educating Riviera stakeholders through print and digital media, web and interactive communications, and assisting in marketing efforts for organizational services. The duties include elevating Riviera’s profile in the local and regional area; fostering support, approval, and adoption of organizational objectives; increasing the perceived value of our services; and ensuring responsiveness to important issues. The position is accountable to the Communications Coordinator.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions
Digital Media:
  • Propose and develop relevant content across digital platforms. Gain expertise over time in graphic design, video editing, social media copywriting, SEO analytics, and digital campaign management with oversight and mentoring from experienced communications staff.
  • Assists in monitoring social media channels, news media, print media, and other relevant channels. Learns how to develop measurable parameters and analytics to track activity.
  • Assists in auditing various digital platforms and mediums to assure accuracy, relevance, consistency, and clarity of messages.
  • Provides basic content for digital campaigns to reach defined goals. With training and experience will provide optimization recommendations when available.
  • Remains on-call after regular business hours in order to update social media when needed.
Creative Services:
  • Develop basic marketing materials with oversight from experienced communications staff using Adobe Creative Suite programs across various print, digital, and broadcast mediums.
  • Maintain/issue inventory of internal promotional materials and wearables.
  • Develops relationships with industry and professional colleagues to gather information and collaborate on shared messaging, marketing, or promotions.
General Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate various marketing and recognition programs.
  • Plans and executes employee social events, recognitions, and industry appreciation efforts.
  • Identifies opportunities to expand skillsets and abilities through professional development and training.
  • Assists in communications efforts during a hurricane or during other critical issues.
Other Functions:
  • Prepares material for special projects as directed.
  • Additional work and/or training outside normal work hours may be required.
  • Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
College coursework in marketing, advertising, digital media or related field and 2 years of experience in copy writing, editing, SEO optimization, and Adobe Suite OR a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Marketing, Advertising, Digital Media.
Experience using HTML, CSS, XML to develop and format web enabled training products is a plus.
Special Qualifications:
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Driver’s License within 60 days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of Riviera policies and procedures related to our customers, utility operations, and employment.
  • Knowledge of Riviera services, service areas and mapping, technical terminology, and overall operations.
  • Knowledge of various social media communications such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, Instagram, Google+ and similar sites.
  • Knowledge of various media editing software (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, or similar).
  • Knowledge of web design and principals including visual aspects, layout, typography and markup languages such as HTML, XML, and CSS.
  • Knowledge of content management systems and mechanics of delivering targeted content.
  • Ability to work with other departments and effectively communicate requested messaging through appropriate channels.
  • Ability to operate a computer, collect and document information, enter data accurately into spreadsheets and forms, and prepare written documents using computer software.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret documents, instructions, manuals and details written or spoken in the English language.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under deadlines. Includes the ability to change tasks easily and frequently while answering questions.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, adjust plans, stay focused, and use available tools to complete assignments on time.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems using innovative and creative thinking and resilience.
  • Ability to quickly pivot and react to trends, opportunities or crisis (agile and flexible).
  • Ability to work across a diverse set of multimedia channels including social media, audio, video, and text to deliver the appropriate message effectively.
  • Ability to communicate orally with customers, other employees, the media, local governments and boards, and the public in a professional and pleasant manner to share information, gain cooperation, develop relationships and alliances, and resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to communicate in writing using correct spelling, grammar, AP Style, and punctuation as needed to collect information and write reports, news update, social media posts, and articles.
  • Ability to add, divide, subtract and multiply whole numbers and fractions and to apply basic algebra.
  • Ability to make logical decisions based on available information and procedures.
  • Ability to carry out instructions provided in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to speak with poise, voice control and confidence using correct English and well-modulated voice.
  • Ability to follow through on work assignments to their logical conclusion and keep detailed and organized records.
  • Ability to have regular and predictable work attendance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is sedentary work that requires exerting up to 10 pounds maximum occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
  • Balancing: maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of valancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
  • Crouching: bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Feeling: perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Grasping: applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Handling: picking, holding, or otherwise working primarily with the whole hand.
  • Hearing: sufficient to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction; ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound. Also includes the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discrimination in sounds.
  • Kneeling: bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Lifting: raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Reaching: extending hands and arms in any direction.
  • Repetitive motion: substantial movements of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Speaking: sufficient to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
  • Standing: particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Stooping: bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Talking: sufficient to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Visual Acuity: having close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading. Also includes color, depth perception and field vision. Able to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures. Visual acuity to operate motor vehicles. Visual acuity to visually inspect small parts and machines, measurement devices.
  • Walking: moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is primarily that of an office job and the noise and temperature levels are moderate. The job may require occasional visits to non-temperature controlled warehouses and outside areas.
