Ensures the school district fulfills its obligation to provide internal and external audiences with accurate and timely information by identifying messaging and using appropriate communication tools. With limited guidance, oversees the development of district-wide publications, social media strategies, media relations, and communications both print and virtual; provides support and guidance to schools around communication issues and effective messaging; attends Board of Trustees (BOT) meetings; approves strategic communications from WCSD, Superintendent and BOT. Member of the District Emergency Response Team with, at times, full responsibility for all communications during an emergency. Serves as key contact for district teams and responsible for complex and multi-departmental communication plans both in their development and implementation. Also, has oversight for the scope and nature of communications directed at specific populations which encompasses conducting surveys to assess public opinion on vital issues and interpreting data to assist in decision-making. The incumbent supervises and evaluates staff in the Communications Department, including managing time off requests to ensure the office is adequately staffed for optimum customer service.
The successful candidate will develop and execute an effective communication strategy that highlights the district's strategic priorities.
