Communications Lineman

OBJECTIVE:

The primary duty of the Communications Lineman is to provide a reliable internet service to our customers. That may be through wireless technology, fiber optic technology, and any combination thereof.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential functions of the position include but are not limited to the following:

• All aspects of aerial fiber outside plant construction:
• Framing poles, hanging, and tensioning strand, lashing fiber optic cable, guying, and anchoring, etc.
• Aerial construction in rights-of-way
• Underground fiber construction
• Digging, trenching, potholing,
• Accurately recording time
• Assisting the wireless or tower crew with new deployments and upgrades
• Assisting the fiber crew with new fiber deployments both in the ground and on utility poles.
• Other Duties assigned by ITX Management or the REA President/CEO

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school degree required.
Experience: 1-3 Years as a Communications Lineman is desired. Construction and heavy equipment operation experience is preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
a Must be able to climb utility poles.
b. Dependable, team player, willing to pitch in, and take direction.
c. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
d. Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
e. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
f. General comfort with computers and technology.
g. Ability to climb and operate safely on a ladder and at heights.
h. Ability to operate various hand tools such as wrenches, cordless drivers, etc.
i. Must always maintain a valid PA Driver’s License. Ability to obtain and maintain CDL if
needed.
j. Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
k. General construction knowledge
l. Ability to tow, haul, and back up a trailer or towable load.
m. Experience as an equipment operator.
n. Ability to obtain and maintain a Certified Tower Climber Certification.
o. General experience in Outside Plant fiber operations and deployment practices as well as
fiber splicing and ODTR troubleshooting.

EQUIPMENT UTILIZED:
a. Usual office equipment—printer, copier, utility knife, scale, tape ruler, and dispenser
b. Internet connection
c. Mobile Devices
d. Various construction tools
e. Tools related to aerial and underground line installation.
f. Bucket truck / aerial lift.
g. Pole gaffing equipment

Physical Requirements
a. Climbing and gaffing utility poles
b. Driving service trucks
c. Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
d. Must be able to lift up-to 75 pounds at times.
e. Must be able to climb and operate safely on a ladder and a rooftop.

Exposure to mechanical hazards, electrical, burns, confined space, high wireless RF, and operating machinery. Some exposure to odors, dust, and dirt. Safety equipment required. Must be able to communicate with individuals. Driver’s license required. Must be able to read, write and do arithmetic.

Pay: $19.00 per hour
