The Division Communications Lead is strategic communications expert who will advance our Mission of transforming the health of our communities. You will work as a liaison to connect the local needs in the MercyOne Central Division with system strategies and messages. Collaborating with Public Relations, Internal Communications, Social Media and the rest of the MercyOne MarComms Team, you will work with a passionate team of colleagues, senior leaders and doctors to engage colleagues and advance our Vision.
A communications expert, you will lead outreach to our colleagues and providers and support building connections with patients. This is a highly visible role which will work to deliver effective internal and external communications. The ideal candidate takes initiative, seeks to provide clarity and is energized by juggling priorities. You are team-focused, composed in fast-moving situations, embrace ambiguity, ramp quickly on complex issues, and anticipates questions/reactions. This hybrid position is based within the MercyOne Central Division (Des Moines, Clive, Mason City, Waterloo, Cedar Falls) with limited travel required.
Hybrid Position: Must located near one of our facilities (Waterloo, Mason City or Des Moines)

Job Responsibilities:
- Work closely and collaboratively across teams to elevate division communications (including events, sponsorships and celebrations)
- Collaborate with Marketing to provide copywriting, editing and content review for service line needs, promotions and campaigns
- When authorized, provide copywriting, editing and support for local MercyOne foundations
- Create and distribute weekly division newsletters and local market announcement emails
- Collaborate with Public Relations staff to write and edit local statements, press releases, talking points, fact sheets, contributed stories, presentations and other communications materials
- Field media inquiries, pitch stories, and support crisis communications in partnership with Public Relations colleagues. Provide on-site support for local advocacy events as needed (photo/video, event coordination, security clearance)
- Maintain and deploy internal communication channels including emails, intranet, electronic boards/screensavers and more
- Monitor social media for local responses and craft local content in collaboration with social media specialists and system-wide best practices
- With direction from Public Relations staff, prepare and train leaders for media interviews and speaking engagements
- Continuously ideate and innovate

Knowledge & Skills:
- Proven experience executing robust communications programs in alignment with marketing and communications strategies to deliver results
- Experience tracking metrics to measure communication effectiveness, reach and engagement using tools including Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Cision, Facebook Business Manager, etc.
- Strong copywriting and editing skills, including rewriting, optimizing, and editing content from subject matter experts
- Ability to anticipate potential reputational issues and exercise high judgment, particularly in narrow time frames
- A minimum of 3+ years of experience in strategic communications or public relations in a health-related field as well as experience working firsthand with executives
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, journalism or a related field; or equivalent career experience
