Purpose of Position

The Communication and Data Representative is responsible for the recruitment of students to the University of North Dakota by effectively communicating with students, families, and other influencers, converting submitted applications to completed and maintaining the systems used to do both. The messages conveyed and strategies employed will be consistent with an overall strategic student recruitment plan. The Communications and Data Representative supports the Admissions recruitment mission and the overall mission of the University.

This individual must be an effective problem solver and assist with the day-to-day workflows that support the University Admissions mission and goals and the overall mission of the University.

Duties & Responsibilities

Communicate extensively with prospective students

  • Carry out recruitment strategies and cultivate interest among prospective students and families, to meet goals set by the University for graduate applications, admits, and enrolled.
  • Represent UND at college fairs, outreaches, and other events.
  • Develop and foster relationships with students and their families through on- and off- campus events and on-going communication.
  • Communicate information in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Answer inquiries from prospective students and families regarding all elements of the recruiting decision, including admission, registration, academic programs, transfer credits, financial aid/scholarship, housing, and residence life.
  • Accurately portray university educational programs, expected outcomes, student services, and financial considerations to students, parents, and educators.
  • Deliver group presentations about the benefits of attending the University of North Dakota.
  • Be familiar with objectives, requirements and content of all programs offered by the university to make a complete and factual presentation to prospective students and other interested parties.
  • Consistently conduct follow-up with all enrollments to assure successful matriculation.
  • Serve as an overall representative of the University, both on- and off-campus, to prospective students, families, and secondary school counselors.
  • Work with team members to continually improve the recruitment processes and strategies.
  • Facilitate Virtual Campus Visits as needed.
  • Provide Campus Tours as needed.

Maintain a recruitment territory and travel to schools and community colleges within territory

  • Travel to colleges and fairs in the fall and spring seasons to present information on UND and meet with students.
  • Devise an effective travel plan in coordination with Assistant Director. Make travel arrangements within the budget guidelines and while being a good steward of University resources.
  • Maintain contact with prospective students and their families through the entire admission process using direct mailings, phone, email, text, and other forms of communication.
  • Assist with planning on- and off-campus recruitment events.
  • Utilize the (CRM) and student information system to reach prospective and admitted students.
  • Create and distribute reports to support the Admissions Representatives in achieving their goals.

Coordinate and implement communication strategies for undergraduate and graduate prospective student recruitment utilizing the Customer Relations Management system

  • Manage daily on-going mail and email to prospective and admitted students.
  • Work extensively in database to develop and run queries to obtain data for communications and reports.

Assist University Admissions Office with events and other general office duties.

  • Assist in planning prospective student events, including open houses, outreach events, special student population events and the like to enhance the prospective student experience.
  • Collaborate with academic partners across campus to develop academic programming.
  • Communicate event registration and attendee information with campus partners as appropriate
  • Serve on UND committees as appropriate.

Required Competencies

  • Ability to work a varied schedule with flexible evening and weekend hours during peak recruitment season.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and public relations skills including the ability to express ideas clearly, in a convincing and credible manner.
  • Demonstrated ability in problem solving, sound decision making, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to represent the University in a professional manner.
  • Ability to relate to and develop rapport with a diverse range of students as well as high school & college counselors/advisors.
  • Familiarity with programs and services offered at UND.
  • Able to load and transport admissions materials, displays and other equipment (lift up to 40 pounds).
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or 5 years related work experience.
  • One year off experience working in an office setting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite software (specifically experience with Word & Excel), email, and Internet.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience directly related to successful college recruitment & promotion.
  • One year of experience in marketing, public relations, or sales.
  • Experience using a Customer Relations Management (CRM) system
