Salary: For an entry-level Legislative Assistant, the annual salary will range from $46,271 - $77,424. Actual starting salary will depend on professional work experience, qualifications, and related legislative/government experience.
Telework: This position works on-site in the Minnesota Senate Building and Capitol during the legislative session.
This position is eligible for hybrid telework opportunities, subject to advanced approval from Senator Rest.
Days of Work/Hours: Monday-Friday/8am-5pm during the legislative session, this position requires occasional evenings and weekends during the legislative session.

Position Summary
The Committee Legislative Assistant will perform daily operations, providing technical and administrative support to Senator Rest's Office. These tasks include a weekly email Capitol Update to constituents, Taxes committee support, minutes and reports, intern coordination, constituent casework, legislative tracking, scheduling, and general support as directed.
An ideal candidate will have interest in taxes and finance and someone who is adaptable to shifting tasks and priorities. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, have strong communication skills, and experience in teamwork.
During the legislative session the CLA will be expected to work long hours, including availability on weekends, with the ability to earn additional paid time to be taken during the interim.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide legislative support to Senator Rest as directed including during committees, floor sessions, and meetings.
- Manage mail, phone contacts, scheduling, and e-mail correspondence as directed by Senator Rest.
- Write letters, memos, committee minutes and reports.
- Track Senator Rest's bills daily, submit hearing requests, and coordinate witness testimony for committee hearings.
- Conduct research on legislative issues as directed by Senator Rest or CA Mitch Berggren.
- Maintain constituent database and listserve.
- Provide daily summaries of major news sources, including TV, radio, and newspapers, especially those in Senator Rest's district.
- Attend virtual and in-person meetings with or for Senator Rest with staff, constituents, and advocacy groups.
- Be familiar with the content of Senator Rest's legislative proposals, commission responsibilities, and those of national legislative organizations where Senator Rest is an active participant.
- Maintain Senator Rest's files.
- Assist Senator Rest in travel arrangements for legislative conferences.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Communications, Public Administration, Social Science, Public Policy, or related areas of study and one year of experience as follows: state government, taxes, finance, policy advocacy, community organizing, legislative staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and understanding of the legislative process.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams), Google Calendar, Zoom, and other virtual meeting programs and software graphics.
- Experience with Artificial Intelligence algorithms and platforms such as ChatGPT, Bard and Grammarly.
