Role overview:
The Automation and Commissioning Engineer holds direct responsibility for developing and implementing process automation systems for renewable gas facilities at an industry-leading company within the Waste to Energy (WtE) and renewable gas sectors. These facilities encompass Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plants and Gas Upgrader Plants within the organization.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Possess expertise as a Process Automation Engineer, proficient in designing, implementing, and commissioning PLC and DCS systems.
  • Demonstrate proactive commitment to safety, adhering to all safety procedures, reporting incidents, and completing required safety training.
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting P&IDs and translating them into comprehensive automation systems.
  • Solid understanding of process controls, including identifying parameters, measurable outcomes, and hazards.
  • Experienced in PLC/DCS controls and manufacturing automation processes, particularly in continuous process environments.
  • Open to coaching and mentoring, with the ability to develop PLC/DCS software logic and documents, supervise installation, commissioning, and interface with customers.
  • Proficient in developing sustainable control algorithms, supporting hardware and software design, and developing software applications based on requirements.
  • Capable of implementing control methodology across various platforms and programming languages.
  • Requires over 10 years' experience with automation software and hardware platforms
  • Proficient in visualization systems like Factory Talk View, Wonderware, etc., and experienced in integrating multivendor packages into cohesive systems.
  • Skilled in multiple process automation communication protocols and knowledgeable in SIS and SIL rated systems and components.
  • Able to design and implement remote access strategies and develop electrical bill of materials.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in process instruments and willing to travel and work at customer sites, including overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed to meet project commitments.

Qualifications and Education:
  • Possess a minimum of 10 years' experience in designing and implementing automation systems for continuous process plants.
  • Demonstrated expertise in understanding the operational principles and construction of various facilities such as gas plants, power plants, and anaerobic digestion plants.
  • Direct experience in leading start-up and commissioning operations is essential.
  • Capable of identifying and resolving issues with existing systems, developing and implementing effective solutions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite applications, with a results-driven, analytical, and detail-oriented approach.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with fluency in English required; proficiency in additional languages is advantageous.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Focused certificates in various Automation concepts.
