Overview
The Neighborhood Harvest is Virginia's premier direct-to-customer delivery service of greens, produce, and proteins from our own greenhouse and Commissary Kitchen as well as a hand-picked network of local farmers and producers. We pride ourselves on selling many specialty food items and delicious prepared meals from our Commissary Kitchen, located in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The Commissary Kitchen Cook is a key member of the kitchen production team. We operate almost exclusively during daytime weekday hours with a rotating Sunday. You will be responsible for cooking and preparing a variety of food products including meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, sauces, stocks, breads and other food products using a variety of equipment and utensils.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a large variety of ingredients and recipes, spanning a wide range of cuisines, and numerous fresh products to produce scratch-made food.
- Maintaining a clean and organized workspace throughout the day and in between tasks.
- Demonstrate knowledge and ability of capable and efficient work with knives and various kitchen equipment.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and employ proper procedures for allergen control.
- Working with large batches of food while always maintaining a consistent procedure and result.
- Ensuring product is cooled within USDA/FDA guidelines and recorded on appropriate logs.
- Assisting in daily cleaning tasks at end of shift and washing all tools/equipment used during production.
- Assisting in any other tasks that may arise from the Commissary Kitchen Manager or Commissary Kitchen Team Leaders, including packaging product for retail sale when required.
Requirements
- 1-2+ years of kitchen or foodservice experience as a Cook
- Have a reliable form of transportation to ensure punctuality for every shift.
- Maintain a steady pace with attention to detail.
- Works well in a team and independently.
- Able to lift 50+ pounds and stand for long periods.
- Food Handler card/certificate
- Culinary degree (certificate, associate's, or bachelor's) preferred
- Catering kitchen experience preferred
Work Schedule
- Monday 6am-2pm, Tuesday-Friday 7am-3pm, rotating Sundays 6am-2pm
- Full time positions are Benefits Eligible
Monday 6am-2pm
Tuesday-Friday 7am-3pm
Rotating Sundays 6am-2pm
