CSEY Advocate for Midland County Juvenile Probation will provide 24/7 on-call crisis response and ongoing case management, victim advocacy, and emotional support for survivors under the age of 22 and their immediate family. CSEY Advocate will engage in an in-person crisis response immediately upon identification or recovery by law enforcement, hospital personnel, school personnel and youth identified as "Clear Concern" through Midland County Juvenile Probation scoring on the Commercial Sexual Exploitation Identification Tool (CSE-IT)
This is an Grant Funded Staff Position awarded by Texas Office of the Governor to be renewed annually.
- Respond to victims immediately by going to the victim's location, providing emotional support and advocacy.
- Focus on the needs of the youth replacing the harmful bond with the trafficker with a healthy trauma-bond.
- Provide case management as needed to meet the needs of the victim and family.
- Establish alliance and healthy relationship by providing in-person support to the victim where needed.
- Personally stay with the victim or ensure that a designated advocate surrogate or approved parent or guardian is present during the first 24 to 72 hours.
- Participate in ongoing Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs) sharing information to make initial and subsequent plans to meet the needs of the victim.
- Maintain a healthy advocate relationship with the victim throughout their journey to recovery.
- Document all information resulting from the advocate relationship.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Requires bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or related field. Knowledge and experience in working with sex trafficked survivors preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Maintain a valid Texas Driver's License. CSEY Advocate frequently faces difficult and stressful situations. The advocate is required to change tasks frequently and to perform work with sensitive information. The advocate frequently is required to work under time pressures to meet deadlines, to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and to work closely with others as part of a and/or as a leader of a team.
SKILL/ABILITY TO
Operate computers, including work processing and spreadsheet applications; organize and prioritize tasks to be assigned and completed; read and write instructions, legal documents, letters, and other documents using proper format and grammar. Analyze various situations and determine best solutions; recognizing problems and recommending solutions; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, victims and their families, and the community.
