Commercial Performance Analyst

Position Overview:
Motiva is seeking a Commercial Performance Analyst to join our Clean Products/Chemicals Trading Team. The role is within our center of excellence model which ensures consistent analytical approach to all trading teams. This role provides an excellent opportunity to work directly with the commercial trading team and be the interface for the desk with commercial, scheduling, risk management, accounting, and performance reporting. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, have a high level of intellectual curiosity, and a passion for analyzing results to drive P&L improvement for Motiva. An experienced desk analyst will have the opportunity to provide analytical insight and consult to help drive future strategies.
Responsibilities:

• Position monitoring and reconciliation as a liaison to Product Control
• P&L monitoring and reconciliation as a liaison to Product Control
• P&L explanation
• Assist team with deal entry, scheduling, and/or system discrepancies
• Ad-hoc analysis, as required by the Trading Manager
• Prepare monthly results of desk performance for leadership review
• Work closely with Product Control and IT resources to maintain and improve ETRM infrastructure
• Develop robust understanding of the desk (market structure, strategies, exposures) that can be leveraged to provide trade analysis and strategy recommendations that the desk would pay to obtain
• Provide support and expertise in ETRM system maintenance and curve management

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Sciences, etc.
• 5+ years of experience in related energy and/or industrial sector (oil & gas, petrochemical, refining, trading)
• Advanced skill in Excel with Excel/Power BI
• Strong analytical, verbal, and written skills
• Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis
• Work in office environment, located at Motiva's corporate center in downtown Houston, TX

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience in a trading environment (trading analysis and/or risk management analysis)
• Experience working with an ETRM, preferably Right Angle
• Knowledge of refined products fuel supply chain from US Gulf Coast to NYH, including Florida, preferably gasoline and blending components
• Knowledge of financial derivative instruments such as futures & swaps
• Experience performing data mining and modeling with Excel
