Job Description
Burke & Herbert Bank’s Commercial Banking Internship position is designed to build a foundational knowledge of commercial lending and kickstart a successful career in banking. Interns will receive comprehensive training, direct exposure to the entire commercial lending processes and protocols along with expertise from experienced staff members. Interns will be involved in everything from credit and lending fundamentals to business development, and customer relationship management. The duration of this internship will take place in a Burke & Herbert Bank office including Richmond, VA; Bethesda, MD; and the newly established corporate center in Alexandria, VA, working together with Bank C-Suite executives and senior leadership. This is a unique opportunity to shadow experienced banking professionals, participate in live deals, make an impact as part of a rapidly growing community bank, and be fully immersed in the process of commercial lending.
Position Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Complete all assigned tasks and assist with day-to-day operations.
- Participates in customer meetings to build relationships, handle loan documentation, and assist with identification of cross-sell and referral opportunities.
- Participate in sales and portfolio management meetings, workshops, and other learning opportunities.
- Provides support with customer due diligence and onboarding, including customer and loan setup on the Baker Hill NextGen loan origination platform.
- Fulfill any requirements and goals set out at the program’s start.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, or related field.
- Graduating between December 2024 and June 2025.
- GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Salary Grade – 2
Supervisory Responsibility:
This positionhas no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
This program operates in a standard setting that requires standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands:
This position requires manual dexterity and the ability to lift files and open cabinets. This position requires bending, stooping, or standing as necessary.
Travel:
Additional travel within and outside the Bank may be required for this program.
