Command Group Linguist (USAG - Humphreys, ROK)

SSU is currently recruiting for a Command Group Linguistto support United States Special Operation Command – Korea (SOCKOR). This opportunity is an on-site / office position for an active contract.

Location: USAG - Humphreys, ROK

Security Clearance: TS, SCI eligible

Duties and Responsibilities

The Command Group Linguist shall provide interpretation and translation services up to seven (7) days per week as required by the SOCKOR Headquarters staff. For some missions, an interpreter may be required to live in field conditions, working and living with service personnel for up to two weeks at a time. Unless otherwise directed, linguists shall be available at the specified site for a minimum of 8-hours per day and may be extended to 12-hours during surge operations. Duties shall include, but are not limited to:

• Performs oral translation from English into Korean and vice versa, in either official or semiofficial meetings where there is mainly the discussion of noncommittal subjects.
• Perform written translation from English to Korean and vice versa.
• Orally interpret subjects such as Political and Military affairs, education, living conditions, technical subjects that are discussed in manuals, publications, current topics of conversations and other matters involving specialized technical military vocabularies.
• Conduct interpretation at official functions in support of SOCKOR Headquarters staff and Republic of Korea (ROK) dignitaries.
• Have a basic understanding of ROK and US military terms to perform translation for the Commanding General.
• Communicating, written and oral, with Political and Military leaders of the Republic of Korea at the National and Strategic level.
• Live and work in an operational environment when required (e.g., semiannual exercises operating from CP Tango, FOS-I, USAG-Daegu).
• The work of this position is not sedentary, however, mostly light to moderate physical effort is required.
• The work is typically performed indoors but can also be required outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
• This position shall be designated a Mission Essential Contractor (MEC).

Qualifications:

• Fluently speak, read, and write English.
• Fluently speak, read, and write Korean equivalent to ILRT 4 or DLPT 3/3/3 level.
• Able to understand the essentials of all speech in a standard dialect and have broad enough vocabulary that they rarely must ask for paraphrasing or explanation.
• Be able to attain and maintain access to classified areas within ROK Government and Military facilities.
• Able to follow accurately the essentials of conversations between educated native speakers, reasonably make and answer telephone calls, understand videoconference broadcasts, news stories like wire service reports, oral reports, oral and public addresses on technical and non-technical military subjects.
• Familiarity with the use of Microsoft and SharePoint products
• Ability to work in a high tempo, high stress environment with minimal oversight.
• Valid Korean or International Driver’s License
