About This Role:

The Communications and Marketing Consultant will plan and facilitate strategies to develop, grow and manage communications and marketing of the Johnson Cancer Research Center (JCRC). They will ensure the center is professionally represented by promoting its mission, goals, and objectives. This will be accomplished by creating, designing, implementing, and evaluating strategic communications and marketing plans, strategies, and solutions.  They may supervise students.  The position will include but not be limited to .

  • interviewing scientists and writing lay language press releases, website material and written pieces for general population distribution.
  • writing market copy including writing press rereleases, emails, social posts, website pages and other written pieces for SPARC and Seek magazines
  • managing, optimizing and reporting on analytics for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Ads and website traffic, editing basic videos for a variety of platforms including social media, radio and TV
  • performing analysis of communications and marketing initiatives and recommends specific marketing tactics. Identifies and recommends best media options within to meet the needs of the multiple target audiences.
  • maintaining and editing the website and managing the center brand, including wordmark/graphics and prose.
  • increasing awareness of the center and its events
  • maintaining and developing award opportunities and student tracking in PieStar software

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five to ten years of relevant experience creating and writing press releases of chemistry and biology information
  • Ability to work independently and to assist with events on evenings and weekends
  • Commensurate work experience.
  • Knowledge or experience using Adobe Suite Programs.
  • Knowledge of internet and social media sites.
  • Knowledge of Associated Press Style Guide.
  • Ability to work with various types of computer hardware and other computer related equipment.
  • Ability to communicate through use of various forms of digital media such as social media, web posts.
  • Ability to effectively communicate through writing.
  • Ability to use innovation and creativity in program concepts.
  • Exceptional communication skills including strong business writing and oral presentation abilities suitable for university and community interaction.
  • High degree of motivation, flexibility to multi-task, reliability, responsiveness and attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and expresses ideas clearly, concisely and logically.
  • Innovative with a "can-do attitude."
  • Experience in video/podcast production
  • Communications experience required

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:
