JOB SUMMARY:
POSITION AUTHORITY:
The incumbent is authorized to take reasonable action necessary to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities, provided such action is consistent with position guidelines as outlined below.
POSITION GUIDELINES:
Position guidelines include, but are not limited to, established company and department policies and procedures and all supervisory directives. The incumbent is expected to exercise sound, reasonable judgment and initiative, and give high priority to accuracy and details in the performance of job responsibilities.
QualificationsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Sweep and wash deck using broom, brushes, and mops.
- Clean and maintain interior areas at all times (including but not limited to carpet, tables, chairs, windows, bathrooms).
- Assist engineer lubricating machinery and equipment, maintaining rust removal and painting of boat.
- Assist the captain in checking and inspecting the vessel’s safety equipment
- Report immediately to the captain, incidents, problems, weaknesses, hazards or unsafe conditions which could cause damage to the vessel or other vessels or bring harm to crew members, passengers and others
- Participates with docking and anchoring maneuvers: handling lines, gangways, anchors, etc.
- Participate in all drills and trainings
- Front line crew member for customer service including: assisting passengers with boarding and disembarking the vessel, answering questions, minor dispute resolution, and assisting with gift shop, catering and bar as requested
- Any and all other duties as assigned; duties are subject to change as management deems necessary to best serve the needs of Moody Gardens
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- Current USCG Credential (one of the following):
- Able Body Seaman
- Ordinary Seaman
- TWIC card (Required)
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Must be reliable and responsible
- Knowledge of the location, function and operation of all normal and emergency equipment in the deck department
- General knowledge of nautical terms, commands and signals; principal knots, splices and hitches
- Ability to interact with customers, and fellow employees in a professional and courteous manner
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing
- Ability to function effectively under time constraints and in emergency situations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift and move equipment that may weigh in excess of 100 pounds
- Requires the ability to wear the personnel protective equipment prescribed by posted signs and written instruction
- Capable of prolonged, strenuous work onboard vessels
- Able to work in various temperatures indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain or dry environments
- Ability to perform work in various sea conditions, under all environmental conditions, often wet/oily decks
