Position Information

Position Title College And Career Transition Counselor (CCTC) Job Description
The College and Career Transition Coach ( CCTC) is responsible for providing direct services to high school juniors and seniors, their parents/families, and high school staff in Harlan, Lewis Central and Woodbine High Schools and at Iowa Western Community College to support career and college preparation and postsecondary success. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, college, And Career goals and exploring all opportunities surrounding possible postsecondary plans
  • Collaborate with high school counselors, district and high school administrators, and teachers to support academic success, career exploration, goal setting, leadership development, college planning, And Career/campus visits for identified CCTC roster students
  • Assist students and their families with navigating the financial aid process by facilitating activities designed to increase FAFSA completion and provide follow-up that includes award letter review and completing verification requirements
  • Work with college service teams (admissions, advising, financial aid, residence life, etc.) to support students as they transition to college
  • Work with students from the CCTC roster that attend Iowa Western Community College for their first year as part of their support system; connect students to resources and work with college staff to ensure student success
  • Collect and analyze student data
  • Potentially teach first-year experience courses, work-based learning courses, and direct workshops for students
  • Participates in professional development as directed by Iowa Western and school districts

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Experience in secondary and/or postsecondary education settings
  • Understanding of the community college mission, and proven dedication to its students
  • A demonstrated focus on student success
  • Proven competency in using multiple forms of technology to carry out daily tasks
  • Ability to excel in team and individual settings, multi-task, problem solve, manage their time, and maintain positive relationships with student, staff, and faculty while thriving in a fast pace environment
  • Ability to organize time, tasks and handle multiple projects at one time
  • Effective critical thinking abilities
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow through independently
  • Ability to pass a background check, have a current driver's license and good driving record
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree preferred
Physical Demands
Requires prolonged standing or sitting, bending, stooping and stretching
