The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation, Natural and Historical Resources Division (NHRD) is seeking a part-time Collections Assistant at the College Park Aviation Museum (CPAM).
The College Park Aviation Museum shares its campus with the world's oldest continuously operating airport, established by the Wright Brothers in 1909, and home to the first Army aviation school. We are dedicated to preserving aviation innovations in College Park and Prince George's County. We engage and inspire our community and visitors with diverse stories through education, exhibits, and programming.
The Collections Assistant is responsible for assisting the Curator of Collections in daily collections care and collections projects. Tasks include processing and cataloguing collections, maintaining the collections database, digitization, inventory, responding to public inquiries, developing finding aides, creating enclosures, and assisting with public programs and staffing the museum. Knowledge of aviation history is not required.
The candidate must:
have collections management system (CMS) experience, preferably PastPerfect.
have museum and collections handling experience
be interested in working with the public and have excellent customer service skills, experience with computers and computer software programs,

Digitize collection materials
Create and maintain finding aids
Assist with acquisitions, accessioning/deaccessioning incoming/outgoing loans
Assist with writing collection condition reports
Assist with maintaining proper collection standards (i.e. collection cleaning, climate control, security)
Assist in collection: research and interpretation, exhibit installation, training volunteers and interns
Assist in maintaining databases, onsite library, inquiries, file paperwork, etc.
Other duties as assigned, including occasional weekend programs
Some college or 2 years of relevant experience; OR 2 years of combined education and experience
Formal knowledge of collections in museum or archival setting
Must be able to lift 25lbs
Hold a valid driver's license or be able to obtain one
Must work a minimum of 21 hours per week with a maximum of up to 29 hours per week.
