About the Role:

We're on the lookout for a passionate individual to join our team as a Collection System Worker I. As a key player in Sanitary Sewer Maintenance and Repair, you'll embark on a hands-on adventure, learning and performing tasks that involve manual labor, semi-skilled and skilled work. About You

Qualifications:

While no prior experience or knowledge of Collection Systems (sanitary sewer maintenance and repair) is required, candidates must possess the following:  

  • Exemplary commitment to maintaining a safe work environment, demonstrating proficiency in basic math calculations, and adept utilization of various computer software programs. 

  • Skilled operation of standard hand and power tools, showcasing the capability to perform robust manual labor, including the use of a 90-lb class jackhammer. 

  • Exceptional communication skills, with a keen ability to actively listen, comprehend oral and written instructions in English, and provide valuable feedback. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills, fostering positive collaborations and effective teamwork. 

  • Quick learner, capable of applying sewer maintenance methods and technology. 

  • Successful completion of pre-employment checks, including a criminal background screening, drug and alcohol test, and job-related physical examination. 

Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess: 

  • A willingness to work in sanitary sewers in confined, enclosed spaces, often in awkward positions. 

  • Adaptability to working outdoors in various weather conditions. 

  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed, sometimes on a standby basis. 

  • Participation in the Department of Transportation Random Drug and Alcohol Testing Program. 

  • Potential requirement for a clean-shaven appearance to facilitate the use of respiratory protection equipment. 

Licenses and Certifications: 

  • Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record and be insurable by the District for the operation of District vehicles.
  • Within the initial 90 days of hire, a Class A California driver's license permit is required, with the obligation to secure and maintain the full license within the first year of entering this Classification. Training will be provided by USD.
  • Furthermore, obtaining a CWEA Grade I Certificate is a developmental goal, with a timeframe of three years from the point of entry into this Classification. Certification fees will be covered by USD.

Candidates for the Collection System Worker Iposition who meet minimum qualifications will be invited to an Online Written Exam scheduled for 2/14/24-2/15/24. 

Based upon the score received on the Online Written Exam and review of application materials, applicants chosen to move forward in the recruitment process will be invited to an onsite Performance Test on tentatively scheduled for Friday, 2/23/24, or Saturday, 2/24/24.

Applications of the highest scoring candidates will be reviewed by a panel of Subject Matter Experts. Top candidates for the position will be invited to a Virtual Qualifications Appraisal Interview tentatively scheduled for 3/6/24 or 3/7/24.     

Finalist Interviews are tentatively scheduled for 3/13/24, in person at the District. 

Before being appointed to the position, the candidate must pass a criminal background check including reference checks, Live Scan, DMV clearance, and pre-employment physical.
