Community Manager - DC Analyst

  • The Deloitte Strategic Engineering team is looking for a passionate Community Manager to build relationships with area schools & families and supervise facilities for Code Next, an after-school and weekend program embedded at a partner organization. The Deloitte Strategic Engineering team is made up of passionate and creative people who bring their unique backgrounds and perspectives to client work and team collaboration.  
  • Work you'll do 
  • As the Los Angeles/Inglewood Community Manager, you will join an energetic national team devoted to increasing access and exposure to computer science and making to underrepresented communities across the United States and Canada. 
  • You will work closely with the Site Coordinator, Coaches, youth, parents and community partners for the lab. A Community Manager assesses the needs, goals and interests of our youth. They collaborate and work with teachers, mentors, parents, community organizations and a network of advisors, tutors, coaches and mentors, to put students on a path that leads them to become a tech leader. The Community Manager serves as a role model for students to achieve their goals. The Community Manager must be able to work weekends and some evenings. 
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
  • This role serves as the leader of assessing the needs, goals and interests of youth in the lab, and creating a local Code Next community by connecting with local nonprofits, schools, and other tech companies in the area. This role manages and leads the lab operations, including leading a team of coaches, site coordinator and volunteers, and works directly with students, teachers and parents to ensure that they are following our road map to success. 
  • Lead community building programming in the lab including community events, leadership in action, college & career prep etc. 
  • Manages the implementation and execution of all program pathways 
  • Develops and manage relationships with local nonprofits and schools 
  • Manage Googler engagement programs and onboarding Googlers to lab 
  • Develop relationships with youth and their families and act as a broker to opportunities that build social capital 
  • Manages all systems and processes for student and participant tracking 
  • Key areas include but are not limited to:  Host afternoon and evening advisory sessions and office hours with students
    • Reteach and review computer science content and concepts covered in core classes
    • Work directly with students, identify areas of strength and weakness of individual students to help them by designing and implementing accelerated or supplemental resources.
    • Facilitate conversations with students regarding their journey and standing with the program
    • Engage with students from underrepresented populations
  • Facilitate instruction for assigned program time, prepare for lessons, and provide feedback to the curriculum development team
    • Assist with building of core curriculum and supporting materials, as needed.
    • Create specialized lesson materials (decks, engineer resources, etc.) for individual core classes
  • Train and support volunteers at partner organization on best teaching practices
    • Give facilitation feedback to peer/volunteer instructors and constantly improve facilitation strength
  • Participate in required training and development and apply concepts in virtual instructional settings
  • Key areas include but are not limited to:
    • Facilitation & student office hours (~30%)
    • Content and curriculum design & iteration (~20%)
    • Project management and reporting & program operational support (~15)
    • Training & providing feedback for volunteers at partner organization (~10%)
    • Curating supporting materials for students (~10%)
    • Spend a percentage of time on special projects (~15%)

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, related engineering field, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years teaching in informal or formal K-12 or higher education settings
  • Ability to travel up to 10% on average based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
  • Coding Instructor - DC Analyst

    The Deloitte Strategic Engineering team is looking for a passionate Coding Instructor to lead high-school level computer science instruction at Code Next, an after-school and weekend program embedded at a partner organization. The Deloitte Strategic Engineering team.

    Work you'll do

    As a Coding Instructor you will join an energetic national team devoted to increasing access and exposure to computer science and making to underrepresented communities across the United States and Canada. The Connect Coding Instructor will be responsible for facilitating virtual learning experiences designed for students ages 13 -18, to increase their interest, confidence and core skills required to pursue a career in computer science.

    This role is responsible for delivering instruction, preparing for lessons, connecting with students, and designing/iterating program content. Coaches teach computer science, engineering, leadership, or some combination of these concepts.

    • Experience with makerspaces, tinkering, innovation labs, design-thinking, and project-based learning.
    • Proficiency in delivering and facilitating computer science education experiences using a blended learning model, project-based assignments, media techniques, or online education.
    • Familiarity with differentiating instruction, inquiry-based learning, asset-based pedagogies (culturally relevant, culturally responsive) and/or constructionists approaches in computing education.
    • Experience with convergence of computer science/engineering with art, design, and/or music.

    The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $61,120 to $91,680.

    You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
