GENERAL SUMMARY:
This position audits coding and provides feedback to coders to assure the timely and accurate coding of medical charts for billing. Collaborates with the Vice President of Coding and Documentation Education to resolve documentation and coding problems and communicates regularly about coding performance. Works with providers on documentation issues and he/she may be required to respond to patient requests for a call back. Weekly/monthly reporting will be required. This position will also work to resolve claim denials.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Audit the coding team and provide feedback to assure all coders achieve and sustain the company minimum accuracy rate
- Assure timely completion of audit volume as established by Vice President of Coding and Documentation Education
- Coding
- Provide training to coders on coding systems, coding standards and protocols, as well as industry changes
- Respond to coding questions from coders as well as the billing and operations teams
- Respond to all assigned coding denials, making corrections and policy changes when applicable
- Provide feedback for use by team members associated with Documentation Education
- Provide educational sessions and feedback to providers as requested by the Vice President of Coding and Documentation Education
- Complete weekly/monthly reporting as specified by the Vice President of Coding and Documentation Education
- Perform Reconciliations to ensure all accounts are received and billed/voided accordingly
- Forward monthly provider schedules to coding team
- Upload necessary HM documentation for facilities in which automatic transmission is not available
- Proactively report on coding performance, issues and resolutions to the Vice President of Coding and Documentation Education
- Respond to patient surveys when a call back is requested
- Meet or exceed all goals set for the position and the department
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a Certified Medial Coder, CPC, CEDC
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Medical Coder
- Emergency Medicine coding experience required
- Hospital Medicine coding experience required
- Offshore workforce exposure preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Position is remote in a home office environment.
- Work in sometimes stressful situations.
- Some travel may be required.
