JOB SUMMARY & PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
REPORTS TO: Principal & Executive Director of Instruction
DEPARTMENT NAME: Leadership & Learning
JOB SUMMARY (2-3 sentences): Facilitates the implementation of reading/literacy in Pre-K-12 classrooms. Serves as reading instructional coach for teachers. Provides ongoing job-embedded professional development, models effective instructional strategies, and leads discussions in scientifically based reading research with teachers.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: List, in the order of time spent, the essential tasks performed by the position. Employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required.
Job Responsibility 1:
Supports teachers and their work with students in balanced literacy (elementary), middle school literacy, and content area reading.
Job Responsibility 2:
Serves as literacy coach and mentor for balanced literacy (elementary), middle school literacy, and content area reading in planning and collaborating with teachers, facilitating classroom instruction, modelling effective instructional reading strategies for teachers, and providing supportive feedback to teachers.
Job Responsibility 3:
Assists with reading assessments and ensures data is entered into the appropriate data management system. Analyzes assessment results with teachers and administrators and focuses on student data to inform classroom instruction.
Job Responsibility 4:
Provides professional development for teachers in scientifically-based reading research.
Job Responsibility 5:
Coordinates reading/literacy implementation. Reviews trends in reading instruction and communicates current research-based best practices.
Job Responsibility 6:
Maintains and coordinates distribution of resources (e.g., bookroom, classroom libraries).
Job Responsibility 7:
Provides information and training opportunities for parents and community members.

MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS: "Mathematics" deals with quantities, magnitudes, and forms and their relationships and attributes by the use of numbers and symbols.
Uses addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; may compute ratios, rates, and percentages.
COMMUNICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: "Communications" involves the ability to read, write, and speak.
Reads technical instructions, charts, and/or procedures manuals; composes routine reports and completes job forms; speaks compound sentences using standard grammar.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK: "Complexity of Work" addresses the analysis, initiative, ingenuity, creativity, and concentration required by the position and the presence of any unusual pressures.
Performs semi-routine work involving set procedures and rules, but with frequent problems; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS: "Impact of Decisions" refers to consequences such as damage to property, loss of data or property, exposure of the organization to legal liability, or injury or death to individuals.
Makes decisions with moderately serious impact - affects work unit and may affect other units or citizens.
EQUIPMENT USAGE: "Equipment Usage" refers to inanimate objects such as substances, materials, machines, tools, equipment, work aids, or products. A thing is tangible and has shape, form, and other physical characteristics.
Handles machines, tools, equipment, or work aids involving moderate latitude for judgment regarding attainment of standard or in selecting appropriate items.
SAFETY OF OTHERS: "Safety of Others" refers to the responsibility for other people's safety, either inherent in the job or to assure the safety of the general public.
Requires considerable responsibility for the safety and health of others and/or continuous enforcement of the laws and standards of public health and safety.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: "Education Requirements" refers to job specific training and education required for entry into the position.
Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred); literary emphasis preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: "Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations" refers to professional, state, or federal licenses, certifications, or registrations required to enter the position.
Valid Tennessee teaching license.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: "Experience Requirements" refers to the amount of work experience that is required for entry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation that the person can perform the tasks required by the position.
Minimum of three years classroom teaching experience including classroom experience with literacy instruction.
More specific degree, certification, and experience requirements will be included in the position announcement as vacancies occur.
