The Fair Futures Coach is a full-time position that would provide support and resources related to youth in Foster Care at the New York Foundling. The Fair Futures Coach will report directly to Fair Futures Coach Supervisor. The Fair Futures Coach will be responsible for:
Position Description:

  • Build relationships with up to 18 youth.
  • Provide ongoing social/emotional support to youth.
  • Work 1:1 with youth to develop goals based on their interests and take measurable steps towards their goals.
  • Connect youth to specialists to help them identify and apply to best-fit schools/programs, career development experiences, and opportunities in line with their goals.
  • Help youth persist in academic/career development settings by checking on them weekly, visiting the school/program, forming a relationship with the primary person at the school/program.
  • Help youth navigate any challenges that arise and celebrate their successes.
  • Help youth plan/prepare for the next step on their journey.
  • Should a youth not be successful in any particular school/program setting, Coaches help youth reflect on the experience, provide support, and work with them to set new goals and transition to the next opportunity.
  • Collaborate with case planners, tutors, and specialists, as needed, to help youth achieve their goals and ensure their overall well-being.
  • Additional collaboration amongst parents, foster parents, peers, and so on.
  • Ensure youth who are aging out can access and maintain stable, affordable housing and build independent living skills.
  • Connect the youth to programs, resources, peer groups and opportunities in line with their goals.
  • Attends coaching and mentoring and group supervision with the supervisor at the main office, alternate office, or in the community as needed. Come ready in supervision having planned and prep for supervision.
  • Works closely with supervisor to effectively support the youth and their families.

  • Adopts a strength focused approach with families, stakeholder, and within the program.

  • Communicate advances and barriers experienced with the youth, and stakeholders, including escalating any feedback received regarding own areas of improvement, to the supervisor.
  • Maintains communication with supervisor and escalate any incidents related to youths and complies with agency incident reporting policy.

  • Ensures adherence to all agency, city and state regulations and policies.
  • Responsible for timeliness of documentation and data entry while maintaining confidential client records, and meeting program deadlines (as indicated by program).

  • Participates in all model program trainings

  • Provides coverage support as needed to peers/team members at the main office, community, or other site.

  • Splits time between the main office, other offices, and community based on meeting needs of youth service needs.
  • Attends staff meeting and agency activities.
  • Attends required training set by agency, and continued commitment to professional development.

Organizational Expectations Include:
  • Regular and punctual time and attendance, and adherence to The Foundling's and your department's specific time and attendance policies and protocol.
  • Consistent demonstrated commitment to The Foundling's BHAG, mission, vision and values (Compassion, Dignity, Family and Community, Diversity, Excellence).
  • Adherence to The Foundling's employee policies, Code of Conduct and applicable rules, laws, regulations or bargaining agreements.
  • Appropriate engagement with support departments to ensure appropriate and timely hiring, performance management, investigation, discipline, suspension, and restructuring decisions concerning direct reports. Regular supervision and performance evaluation of direct reports.
  • Any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's level in social work, psychology or Sociology.

Preferred Experience:
  • Possess at least one year of experience working in areas directly related to supporting youth, families or communities. Coaches should come from, or be intimately familiar with the communities in which participating youth/families reside. Coaches should have similar life experiences as the youth, and should have a passion for working with adolescents.
  • Have experience in working with teens; undertake advocacy and outreach with parents, teachers, the criminal justice system and other institutions; collaborate as team players; empower youth to do the same; retain strong ties to the community; organize effectively; be computer literate; show patience with youth; possess a sense of humor; and be able to think "out of the box."
  • Knowledge of and experience providing treatment for domestic violence issues and substance abuse issues.
  • Experience in providing direct services to youth and their families in their homes and communities.
  • Experience working with youth and have knowledge of the juvenile justice system in New York City.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Email, and Data entry systems (e.g. Connections, Electronic Health Record Care4 Platform).
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Experience in managing direct service providers who engage with the identified populations or similar population in high-risk court-involved youth either in Family Court or Adult Court, Child-Welfare programs.
  • An understanding and commitment to complying with the New York State Central Register of Abuse and Neglect protocol (requiring staff to comply with promulgated requirements to report any suspected abuse, maltreatment or neglect of any child).
  • Experience in working with or providing services to children and families, demonstrated ability to establish trusting relationships.
  • Experience with and willingness to work with culturally diverse population, computer literacy, able to research current information on medical, social and legal issues.
  • Direct use of pragmatic (i.e. structural, strategic and functional) family therapies.
  • Implementation of interventions within or between systems in the youth's natural ecology that affect or influence the behavior of youth (i.e. family, peer, school, and neighborhood).
  • Be comfortable and adaptable to changes.
  • Take initiative and a team-player
  • Be strength-focused and be able to engage youth.
  • Be accountable and open to ongoing evaluation, feedback and supervision of his or her work.
  • Have experience with cross-agency collaboration.
  • Have experience with common clinical problems, e.g., child abuse and neglect, aggression, family conflict, depression, drug use, traumatic events, truancy, etc.
  • Have experience with clinical management/supervision of staff.
  • Have skills to manage own and team self-care to prevent burnout.

Salary Range: $51,000 - $58,300
