Co-op Translational Immunology

Job Summary
BioNTech US is seeking a highly motivated Co-op to join the Translational Immunology team. The team’s key goals are to understand the impact of our cutting-edge immunotherapies on the patients in our clinical trials, study the biology to understand underlying mechanisms of response and resistance, to identify biomarkers and to establish the evidence for next generation treatments. The Co-op will assist in development and execution of key assays for the immune monitoring of clinical samples. The laboratory operations will include characterization using ELISpot, MSD, flow cytometry, and other basic immunology techniques. Key responsibilities will also include maintaining general lab organization and lab inventory. If you enjoy working in a highly collaborative team to achieve mutual goals, this may be a good role for you. As part of our multi-disciplinary team, you will work closely and collaborate with other scientists in the group, as well as with other members within the research and clinical teams. A big part of your role will include working directly with clinical samples generated during BioNTech US trials to develop different immune monitoring assays and data.

Responsibilities
The areas of responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and perform molecular and immunological assays, including DNA/RNA isolation, flow cytometry and tetramer staining on both healthy donor and patient-derived material
  • Assist in isolating immune cell populations from peripheral blood and tissue of patient-derived material and characterizing them by implementing novel immunological assays including Next Generation Sequencing technologies
  • Maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation commonly utilized by the research team
  • Assist in general laboratory maintenance for the Translational Immunology group, including inventory upkeep and maintaining a streamlined work environment
  • Analysis and presentation of results within the team and potential for presentation to broader scientific groups
  • Maintain a high standard of experimentation and record keeping
  • Work productively in a team environment and independently to deliver against timelines

Requirements
  • Coursework in Biology/Biotechnology or related field, with focus or interest in immunology
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Previous experience in a laboratory (through coursework, academic lab, or previous co-op)
  • Safe lab practices and handling of biological material
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and work cross-functionally within the immunology department
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
