Job Description

The CNC Manager is responsible for planning and overseeing the production of a team of programmers and operators, and managing the programming, operation, and maintenance of a fleet of CNC tools to produce quality, precision parts from a variety of plastics, metals, and wood panels for assembly in a custom fabrication shop primarily servicing the commercial and residential millwork, retail display fixture, and scenery industries.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • 5+ Years Experience programming and operating the following tools required: 3-Axis routers, Waterjet, Flatbed Knife Cutter, Laser Cutter.
  • Experience with other CNC tools a plus, including but not limited to: 7-Axis Robot Arms, 5-Axis Routers, Panel Saws, Lathes, Mills, Benders, Plasma cutters, Robot arms, Hot Wire Foam Cutters, 3D printers, etc.
  • 5+ years Experience with CAD and CAM software required. MasterCAM, PowerMill, EnRoute, Pre Form, Omax, Coreo, software preferred.
  • General computer experience and skills required, experience with collaborative cloud and project management software preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of engineered sheet goods, hardwoods, plastics and metals required, understanding of manufacturing process preferred.
  • Proficiency in shop math, machining, tooling, sharpening, troubleshooting, problem-solving and machine maintenance. 
  • Must display positive attitude, be detail-oriented and self-directed, exhibiting willingness to learn and improve skills and abilities.
  • Strong communication, organization, time-management and supervisory skills required.

Production Responsibilities:
  • Reviews drawings and specifications of a particular product and plans the production process, including where and how to cut the work piece, the correct tools and materials for the job and the sequence of steps to follow in production of the product.
  • Problem solves and makes decisions on ways to decrease cycle times and improve part quality and efficiency of setups.
  • Performs or supervises machining operations, watching for problems in the production process, verifying settings by reviewing first-run setups, inspecting all parts for product quality, and checking the accuracy of the finished pieces against drawings using calibrated measuring tools.
  • Tracks and reports project status, completion, and quality using project management software.

Management Responsibilities:
  • Analyzes production priorities and coordinates production job scheduling for efficiency.
  • Coordinates inventory requirements for needed jobs by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
  • Manages and maintains records of employee and machine schedules, including scheduling rotating shifts and temporary workers as needed to meet production goals.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains safe and clean operations and work areas in compliance with company guidelines. Use checklists and inspections to improve reporting and hazard reduction processes.  Investigate and prepare incident and safety reports.
  • Maintains equipment by managing and implementing a preventive routine maintenance schedule and handling repairs both internally according to manufacturer recommendations and through service contractors.
  • Motivates team and leads by example in fostering a positive, safe, and solution-oriented work environment.
  • Stays current on machining technology by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical publications, learning new techniques and new machine technologies.
  • Develops training resources, materials, and manuals and manages employee training on policies, procedures, and best programming and machining practices to operate and maintain machines safely and efficiently.  
  • Oversees employees to make sure they utilize best practices to carry out their duties, help programmers and machine operators with problem solving, adjustments, and setups.
  • Leads team member performance reviews to set and track employee development goals.
