REPORTS TO: Director Medical Surgical Services
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the primary nurse and supervision of the charge nurse, along with collaboration of interdisciplinary team members, delivers individualized, patient centered care. This care is provided according to the scope of service for PCU and Wyoming state certified nursing assistant or Wyoming EMS provider license.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Patient Care Activities:
  • Assist in admitting patients to PCU by opening the room, initiating vital signs, height and weight and white boards
  • Provides AM care, evening care and other personal care as needed throughout the shift
  • Takes vital signs, I&O, and height and weight as directed by RN
  • Assists with patient mobility, positioning using proper body mechanics and assistive equipment
  • Assist patients with meals including ordering room service, assist or feed patients as needed and pick up food trays
  • Makes rounds on patients, anticipates needs in a way that decreases patient need to use call lights, but when call lights are used, answers them and paging in a timely manner
  • Discuss and follows plan of care developed collaboratively with the nurse
  • Assists with discharge process as directed by nurse
  • Collects specimens following 2 patient identifiers and appropriately transports to proper areas as directed
  • Reports any observed changes in patient condition/behavior to the nurse or charge nurse in a timely manner
  • Uses universal precautions on all patients and specific isolation precautions as needed

Environment Responsibilities:
  • Appropriately handles and cares for patient's personal property from admission to discharge
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment and other problems to management
  • Cleans equipment between patients and as needed and keeps hallways clear
  • Rounds on empty rooms to ensure "perfect room" readiness

Other Activities:
  • Maintains, develops and updates skills to implement ideal care and service
  • Attends CNA and all staff meetings, unless previously excused by Director
  • Answers phone and call lights at nurses station and relays messages
  • Relieves secretary for breaks and meals

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Required Education & Experience: Complete accredited Certified Nursing Assistant course or Emergency Medical Technician course. If EMT must be NREMT or NREMT eligible.
Required Licensure: WY CNA or WY EMS provider license required at time of hire. Current BLS required at time of hire. CPI required within the first 6 months on the job.
FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS:
Physical Requirements: 75% of time standing and walking. Irregular hours, meals and breaks. Must posses sight/hearing senses to meet job requirements. Intermittent computer use. Must possess ability to lift, push, pull and move patients, equipment, and supplies. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
