Cma/Lpn Family & Specialty Practice Float Staff Nurse (Prn)

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of the Physician Practices, and for clinical issues only the Provider, CNO, or Physician Practice Nurse, the LPN Family &Specialty Practice Float Staff Nurse will provide direct and indirect patient care in an office setting in accordance assisting in a variety of clinical areas in efforts to meet fluctuating staffing needs during periods of increased workload, staffing shortages, and to help balance off long-term absences (i.e., illness, holidays, maternity leave, etc.), reducing overtime of regularly scheduled staff. Based on a volume change, the incumbent may start their shift in one practice and then be transferred or moved to a different practice to meet operational requirements. The incumbent will communicate with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with TJC, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies, and procedures. This position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

1. Conducted/Transported patients to the exam room and prepared the room and patient for examination.
2. Takes vital signs and records vitals in the chart.
3. Assists the Provider with the care and treatment of patients.
4. Obtains specimens via phlebotomy process and urine specimens by policy/procedure.
5. Administers medications according to established policies and procedures as directed by the Physician or mid-level practitioner.
6. Store/handle/transfer vaccines correctly in accordance with facility policy/procedure and by state, federal, and governing regulations.
7. Administers treatments according to established policies and procedures, Labs, etc., as directed by a Physician or mid-level practitioner.
8. Participates in patient education involving the patient’s family when appropriate.
9. Completes the nursing portion of the patient charts in an organized, neat, complete, and accurate manner.
10. Identifies physical symptoms and physical changes and reports to the Physician.
11. Observes and responds to behavioral and physiological changes due to medications.
12. Performs pre-certifications for services requiring authorizations.
13. Prepares patients for ordered procedures: lab, X-ray, surgery, treatment, etc., and completes forms or ordered procedures.
14. Administers IV fluids according to center policy.
15. Returns call to patients.
16. Calls in prescriptions for patients as required.
17. Reviews home care with patients.
18. Communicates with other agencies, physicians, facilities, and pharmacies when appropriate and as directed by the physician.
19. Ensures adherence to proper infection control, OSHA, and safety standards.
20. Provide at least four (4) shifts (8 am to 5 pm) coverages per calendar month.
21. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Level of Education: Education level equivalent to high school completion and completion of Licensed Practical Nurse Training course or Registered Nurse.

Formal Training: Management skills with experience in planning, organizing, implementing, facilitating, interviewing, counseling, and verbal and written communications.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: Must have and maintain an unencumbered current Georgia Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse license, or Medical Assistant Certification, and Basic Life Support CPR certification.

Work Experience: Six months to one year related experience and/or training.
