Job Title: Cloud Systems Engineer
Location-Type: Remote EST
Start Date Is: ASAP
Duration: 6-month contract-to-hire
Compensation Range: Up to $53/hr
Job Description:Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Support and Documentation:
- Provide production technical support for cloud-based and on-demand environments.
- Document solutions for operational effectiveness and strategic planning.
- Ensure platform and service availability, security, scalability, and performance.
Solution Monitoring and Maintenance:
- Support, enhance, and customize the hosted environment.
- Monitor and manage alerting systems; respond to incoming alerts promptly.
- Design and maintain software currency and patch management processes.
- Develop and manage a utilization and capacity plan for the hosted services.
- Generate regular system performance and operational reports for management.
IT Expertise Delivery:
- Contribute technology expertise to project teams as required.
- Represent specialized technology-area knowledge effectively.
- Lead or participate in additional projects or duties as assigned.
Cloud and Systems Administration:
- Strong experience with AWS services (Elastic Load Balancers, EC2, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, Lambda, etc.).
- Familiarity with Application Servers (Tomcat, JBoss, Weblogic).
- Proficient in monitoring and logging tools (Data Dog, New Relic, ELK, etc.).
Scripting and Automation:
- High level of proficiency in shell scripting (Powershell, Python, Bash).
- Experienced with GitHub Actions, Ansible, Terraform, and Cloud-Init.
Security and Compliance:
- Understanding of security best practices for environment and CI/CD processes.
- Document and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
- Ensure data and configuration backup and recovery.
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving, project management, and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Curiosity and self-learning capabilities with minimal guidance.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and perform off-hours work as needed.
- Required: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred Certifications: CCNA, MCSE, SQL DBA certifications.
- Experience: 5+ years in Information Technology with at least 3 years as a Systems Administrator.
