Job Description

The Bilingual Clinician is responsible for mental health assessments and provide ongoing counseling and crisis intervention services for clients within the Unaccompanied Children (UC) program. The Clinician will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to maintain a therapeutic and emotionally healing environment, establish treatment goals and assist in the implementation of individualized treatment plans. They will complete all required short-term Shelter program documentation in a timely manner and to designated quality standards to meet JCCA and regulatory requirements.

The Clinician will conduct individual, and group, screen for trauma and human trafficking, and crisis intervention services. He/she will collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, other clinicians and Youth Care Workers to maintain a therapeutic and emotionally healing environment and establish treatment goals and assist in the implementation of the individualized treatment plan. He/she will complete all required Short-term Shelter program documentation in a timely manner and to designated quality standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts mental health assessments; provides ongoing individual and group counseling services, screens for human trafficking concerns, and develops treatment plans.
  • Ensure JCCA and ORR documentation practices and reporting requirements are being followed
  • Participate in staff meetings with stakeholders and offer clinical feedback regarding client treatment needs.
  • Works collaboratively with collateral contacts, team members, and internal and external providers and documents all accordingly.
  • Facilitate crisis intervention and develop behavioral and/or safety plans as needed.
  • Collaborate with recreational staff in creating and facilitating recreational activities
  • Assist Case Manager in search and work with identified sponsors
  • Attend meetings with the treatment team on a regularly scheduled basis
  • Participates in in-service training as required for professional growth and development. Attends external training workshops at the direction of management.
  • Respond to client emergencies within or outside work hours

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in social work or equivalent degree in education, psychology, sociology, or other relevant behavioral science degree; NYS clinical license highly preferred; OR bachelor’s degree plus five (5) years clinical experience.
  • Strong mental health background; proficient in mental health diagnoses.
  • Must have previous experience working with youth in a social services, residential or childcare agency or organization.
  • Must be bilingual, English/Spanish; other language skills may be acceptable depending on service population
  • Must be able to pass all required pre-employment screenings per ORR contractual agreement

  • Strong people and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with very diverse groups of clients and staff
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, and requests simultaneously
  • Demonstrated strong writing skills without grammatical errors; must have Strong verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated therapeutic and crisis intervention skills; ability to de-escalate situations with calmness, professionalism, sensitivity, and within ethical boundaries
  • An understanding of the impacts of institutional and structural racism on the child welfare system and in disadvantaged communities
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with teams and clients that are culturally and professionally diverse.
  • Proficient with MS Office with the ability to learn new technology platforms;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels of the organization;

*Candidates who are bilingual (Spanish speaking/writing) will receive language differential. Candidates who contain Licensure will also receive pay differential.*

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations
  • Knowledge or experience with Office of Refugee and Resettlement policies

Salary: $58,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
