General Summary:

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Clinical Training, LifeWays' Clinical Training Specialist plans, organizes, and coordinates onboarding of new employees within the Clinical Care Division. This position also plans, develops, implements, and conducts ongoing trainings across clinical programs and other partners (law enforcement, first responders, provider network, etc.) to increase skill and knowledge level within the mission, vision, and values of LifeWays.

Essential Functions:

  • Promotes an environment conducive to learning.
  • Provides technical assistance and clinical consultation as needed to ensure appropriate delivery of services within LifeWays' provider network and internally.
  • Develops and maintains the annual training calendar for all network and clinical staff. Provides trainings at a frequency that meets demand/need.
  • Monitors and/or oversees tracking of all training to support LifeWays' network and staff; identifies trends and develops improvement plans/training regarding clinical competencies as identified from chart reviews. Works closely with clinical supervisors and the Contracts Management Department to ensure clinical competence and quality of service delivery.
  • Is an active member in all committees as assigned that include but are not limited to Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) workgroups, Quality Management workgroups/ committees.
  • Provides onboarding and ongoing trainings in person and virtually to employees in the Clinical Care Services of the Operations Division including but not limited to evidence-based practices, clinical documentation, and other clinical concepts.
  • Organizes onboarding packets for new employees in Clinical Care Services departments, including training logs, onboarding schedules, competency checklists and other necessary documents.
  • Assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating agencywide Clinical Training plan consistent with best practices. This plan will outline agency needs, requirements, and structure for the provision of Clinical Training and supervision, including supervised licensing hours.
  • Conceptualizes and creates training and development solutions such as classroom learning material, e-learning modules, job aids, and other resources as needed.
  • Conducts and coordinates a variety of training sessions, workshops, and seminars in alignment with LifeWays' core values and strategic goals and with the use of various training programs, methods, instructional tools, and delivery strategies. Incorporates teaching aids and materials such as handbooks, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, etc. Presents courses and seminars independently and with co-workers. Coordinates training schedules and facilitates training sessions accordingly.
  • Prepares course feedback and evaluation tools to measure the effectiveness of courses. Periodically evaluates and reports on the outcomes of training sessions, overall effectiveness, success, and return on investment. Maintains records of trainee progress and achievements. Maintains a database of training materials as well as a reference library on training films, books, and other course materials.
  • Tracks Clinical Trainings provided to staff.
  • Develops and implements 90-day reviews for new employees in Clinical Care Services' teams.
  • Reviews documentation submitted by staff to ensure they comply with competency standards.
  • Provides clinical supervision to limited licensed staff, interns, and others as needed, assigned and within scope.
  • Supports implementation of evidence-based practices by participating in cohorts as appropriate.
  • Obtains and maintains various trainer status by completing necessary trainings and ensuring compliance with requirements to keep trainer status. Examples include but are not limited to: LOCUS, CAFAS, PECFAS, and DLA-20.
  • Provides ongoing monitoring of competencies through chart reviews, observation, and other means to identify training needs within Clinical Care Services teams in the Operations Division.
  • Promotes teamwork by developing team building and learning opportunities.
  • Provides feedback to supervisors on staff competencies and collaborate on the development of performance improvement plans as needed.

Required Education/Certification/Licensure:

  • Clinical Trainer I: Master's degree required. Limited Licensed Masters Social Worker (LLMSW), Limited Licensed Professional Counselor (LLPC), Limited Licensed Psychologist (LLP) or Registered Nurse (Associates in Nursing and RN licensure).
  • Clinical Trainer II: Master's degree required. Fully Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW), Fully Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Fully Licensed Psychologist (LP). Or BSN-RN (Bachelor in Nursing + RN licensure)
  • Clinical Trainer III: Master's degree required. Fully Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW), Fully Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Fully Licensed Psychologist (LP) andis a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or is a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC). Or MSN (or relevant graduate degree) + RN licensure.
  • Ability to be credentialed as a Mental Health Professional according to Michigan PIHP/CMHSP Provider Qualifications.

Preferred Education/Certification/Licensure:

Certification and/or training in evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (including trauma-focused), etc.
