Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Nursing, the Clinical Specialist is a full-time, in-person, twelve-month position. The individual in this position coordinates with the Nursing faculty to manage and supervise the clinical operations in the Nursing Department's Clinical Simulation Center. The successful candidate will support the Nursing Program students and faculty's clinical and educational needs. They will work collaboratively with faculty and students by standardizing best practices. This will be accomplished through collaboration with the Nursing educators. They will work with students in skills practice, return demonstrations, simulations, remediations, and selected courses.

In June of 2015, the Montclair State University Board of Trustees approved the establishment of the School of Nursing. The Trustees envisioned a School focused on nursing as a professional career, which offered baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral education. The SoN educates undergraduate and graduate students to engage in full scope practice as registered nurses (RNs) to develop, implement, and evaluate compassionate, coordinated health services through collaboration with diverse communities. The program offerings include the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). The BSN degree program includes the 4-year pre-licensure BSN track and online post-licensure RN to BSN track. The MSN degree program includes the RN to MSN Bridge, online post-licensure MSN track, and pre-licensure MSN track.

Job Description
SUMMARY:

The successful candidate will support the Nursing Program students and faculty's clinical and educational needs. They will work with students in skills practice, return demonstrations, simulations, remediations, and selected courses.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides skill instruction and supervision during open lab sessions.
- Participates in planning, monitoring, and scheduling for students and faculty by ensuring open and structured lab utilization times are available, communicated, and appropriately resourced.
- Collaborates with faculty to ensure the Center's experiences meet course objectives; provide oversight during student practice and remediation on technical skills.
- Prepares computer medication carts for faculty and student use during practice, skills, simulation, immersion sessions, and competency testing.
- Creates realistic Nursing Simulation environments for skills & simulation sessions.
- Supports the planning and utilization of skills & simulation in the Nursing program.
- Maintains, coordinates, and monitors open lab sessions.
- Operates the patient simulator during simulation sessions.
- Participates and assesses debriefing sessions with instructors following skill & simulation sessions to ensure best practices
- Assists and assesses instructors during competency examinations for course-specific knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
- In collaboration with the Simulation Center Manager, organizes and administers remediation and immersion sessions.
- Assists during clinical simulation experiences in the Center.
- Operates simulation room (s) during immersion to assess and evaluate students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
- MSN from an accredited institution.
- Active New Jersey RN license
- Ability to work flexible hours if needed
- A minimum of 2 years of clinical hospital experience
- Simulation laboratory experience
PREFERRED:
- Previous Higher Education experience
- Certification in simulation
- Experience in clinical teaching or skills lab
