Job Description Summary
The Clinical Specialist Leader is a resource for the execution of the Medication Delivery Solutions value-added clinical business strategy and acts as a subject matter expert on all clinical and practice matters. The role supports the Clinical Manager and sales teams in implementation of clinical programs and initiatives that differentiate the MDS product portfolio based on improved clinical outcomes and process enhancements which may result in a lower cost-in-use. The expertise and credentials of the Clinical Specialist Leader enhances the credibility of recommendations to customers and strengthens customer service and support. This support to customers is achieved through recommending best practice and facilitating education. The Clinical Specialist Leader actively supports and engages in conversion managementand other clinical programs and projects in support of Medication Delivery Solutions products.
The ideal candidate will possess experience both as a practicing healthcare provider and as a medical device industry professional. A passion for making a positive impact in healthcare and on patients is required, as is the ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders within hospitals and beyond.
The Clinical Specialist Leader reports directly to the Clinical Director with a dotted line reporting structure to Clinical Manager. This position is a Job Group 4.

As directed by the Clinical Director, the Clinical Specialist Lead role will be focused on, but not exclusively limited to, the activities outlined below:
Performance
  • Manages their responsibilities within the allotted T&E expense budget
  • Provides ongoing updates to the Clinical Associate Director and Clinical Manager on clinical training activities and support provided in regions (Conversion activity, assessments) per activities delineated in the Individual Impact Goals
  • Coordinates multi-disciplinary project team members including internal team members, hospital team members and demonstrates ability to drive change.
  • Collaborates with the Sales to clinically support customer engagements from pre-sale through post-conversion ensuring best practice methodologies are deployed on every account.
  • Coordinates and conducts regional training for contractual nursing support as needed
  • Works with CM and RBM to support large IDN and mulit-facility projects
  • Provides training for Clinical Specialists for VAM assessments supporting both Vascular Care and Vascular Access sales bags.
  • Supports US MDS clinical input needs such as sales meeting presentations, photo shoot inputs, clinical tracking tools and educational presentation development.

People/Process
  • Provides direct support of individual Clinical Specialists in the field
  • Works in concert with the Clinical Manager to ensure the conversion management process is clinically effective throughout the timeline of pre-validation to retention
  • Establishes excellent rapport with TMs across both selling bags, RBM and CM. Works collaboratively with Region.
  • Collaborates with the Sales Team in key account management strategy sessions
  • Provides clinical support, training and education for Team members as needed
  • Shares best practices with the Business, Territory Managers, ATMs, Regional Business Managers, Strategic Customer Group, Area VPs and their counterparts as they continue to enhance MDS programs and processes
  • Provides training activities that help increase the clinical acumen for new hires
  • Assists the Clinical Specialists in managing the On-call Specialist (OCS) schedule to include coordination of team meetings for consistency of message and briefing of issues
  • Trains and mentors contract nursing staff to consistently help build their clinical acumen, while identifying high potential nurses within this group to be considered for the role of Clinical Specialist

Position Requirements
  • Registered Nurse with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field, masters degree preferred
  • Good relationship development skills
  • Strong communicator with effective verbal and written skills
  • Proven training skills to conduct educational courses
  • Persuasive and credible; able to influence without authority
  • Deals well with ambiguity
  • Possesses strong understanding and knowledge of infusion therapy, vascular access and key disease states served by MDS products
  • Strong project planning/management, leadership, negotiation and presentation skills as well as the ability to contribute creative, practical solutions to problems is required.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify and effectively communicate relevant takeaways.
  • Provides sales and customer product support for existing and prospective customers
  • Assists with training and orientation of new staff
  • Communicates professionally by telephone, e-mail and on-site with internal and external customers
  • Interacts with customer committees as requested (i.e. product, safety, infection control, policy committees)
  • Participates in trade shows to promote the company's product lines
  • Networks and participates in local, state and national chapter affiliations (i.e. INS,ONS)
  • Reports complaints regarding the company's products and service per BD's company policy
  • Works in a safety-conscious manner ensuring that safe work practices are utilized
  • Complies with company policies and procedures
  • Adheres to policy on drug-free workplace
  • Maintains confidential information including proprietary information

Job Qualifications & Competencies:
  • Maintains license as a Registered nurse in good standing with the Board of Nursing
  • Ten (10) years of general clinical experience, including three (3) years experience with nursing related to a MDS product.
  • National certification recommended
  • Ability to travel up to 85% of the time. Incumbent must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Employs a strong work ethic
  • Works independently, with minimal guidance and supervision.
  • Relates effectively to all levels of associates both internally and externally
  • Participates in clinical organizations, regionally and nationally
  • Demonstrates problem solving and decision making ability
  • Exhibits ability to present to customers and internal staff clearly and effectively utilizing adult learning principles
  • Has capability to work independently and flexibility to travel as needed to service the regional, area and national needs

  • Possesses exceptional computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
