The York Street Project, a not-for-profit, 501c3 social service, mission-driven organization, is seeking a Clinical Social Worker. Employed directly by York Street Project’s emergency shelter (Jersey City), AND working in collaboration with PERC emergency shelter (Union City), this individual is part of a one-year collaborative pilot program administered by the New Jersey Coalition to End Homelessness.
The Clinical Social Worker is the treatment ‘champion’ in the shelter, they are the problem solver, the bridge builder, and cheerleader as the client navigates treatment and they are part of the conversation about how the community-based providers and the shelter can work together more effectively to provide for the needs of the client.
This advanced level professional will provide psychotherapy designed to assist persons in shelter address their psychiatric, social, and behavioral issues that pose barriers to their social and emotional wellbeing that directly impacts stability.
Qualifications For Position
Education: Minimum of Master’s Degree in social work from an accredited school of social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
· New Jersey Licensed Social Worker (under LCSW supervision) required
· New Jersey Licensed Clinical Social Worker preferred
Experience: Minimum two (2) years’ experience in behavioral health, with a focus on working with individuals or children and families experiencing homelessness.
Skills and Abilities:
· Active learning and listening
· Critical thinking
· Written comprehension and expression
· Knowledge of interviewing methods and techniques, case management principles and methods, professional ethics standards
· Attention to detail is required
· Must possess a working knowledge of the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
· Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Job Specific Duties & Responsibilities

· Provide individual and group bio-psychosocial services and immediate crisis de-escalation in an effort to allow clients to remain in the shelter by helping them to manage their behavior and provide much needed relief to staff members who do not have the advanced training to work with clients in crisis.
· Assess, diagnose, and treat individuals and families experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral problems that affect function, self-sufficiency, and quality of life
· Develops and implements client-centered treatment plans and prevention strategies
· Assist and counsel individuals and families in adherence and compliance of psychotropic medication (prescribed by a qualified health professional) use and consumption
· By building relationships with both the client and the community-based behavioral health providers, engage clients (including the family of identified children) in effective long-term behavioral health treatment.
· Spearhead professional development for staff to empower them with more effective skills in working with clients with co-occurring symptoms, including guest speakers, modeling, direct one-on-one coaching, and system solutions for operating procedures that incorporate trauma-informed care, mental health first aid, and client-centered interventions.
· Serve on the collaborative team designing an enhanced network of care for clients in need of behavioral health services.
· Collect required pilot data as identified by the New Jersey Coalition to End Homelessness and Mathematica.
· Performs related work as assigned
