ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Research Methodology and Biostatistics (RMB) Core seeks to provide high-quality assistance with development of research methods and biostatistics to the Morsani College of Medicine. Our goal is to leverage the diverse talents of our RMB Core team to provide research support services in a safe collaborative environment.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position participates in the development of research policies and practices in the fields of
pediatric cancer treatment, supportive, and palliative care. The position performs project activities such as developing materials to communicate the project status and timelines with clinical and methodology research teams, coordinating study selection and collection of data for research, ensuring quality control in data collection and management, and compiling research reports. This position may require specific computer expertise and may require maintaining information on a web site. This position is grant funded.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project management- Manages project timelines for multiple projects, schedules meetings and communicate agenda with team, manages meeting minutes and develops written communications.
Assists with evidence gathering for projects. Runs and updates systematic searches of relevant literature, assists with developing inclusion/exclusion criteria for a given research question. Oversees and aids team with study selection tasks as needed.
.Manually extracts and manipulates data with help of team biostatistician. Uses basic knowledge of statistics (events/nonevents, percentages, mean difference, standardized mean difference, odds ratio vs risk ratio vs hazard ratio) to analyze data. Uses basic familiarity with Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation checklist, Cochrane Risk of Bias for randomized controlled trials tool, New-Castle Ottawa risk of bias tool, Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies tool, Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) tool to assist with study appraisal.
Assists with research dissemination. Creates publication ready figures and tables with help of team biostatisticians while being familiar with research reporting guidelines.
Assists team members with other department research needs as appropriate.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a field directly related to the program responsibilities and one year of professional experience; or Master's degree in an area of specialization appropriate for the program. Four years of direct experience may substitute for a Bachelor’s degree; or six years of direct experience may substitute for a Master’s degree (SB 1310).
PREFERRED:
Bachelor's Degree in a field related to health or natural sciences.
