About the Position
The Clinical Referral Specialist will be responsible for completing all incoming and outgoing Clinical Referrals from start to finish – through the process of referral initiation to patient completion. Additionally, will check in with the patient to ensure the referral has been completed and the results are uploaded to the correct platform.

Pay Range: $12.50/hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

In this position, you will be responsible for the following duties (but not limited to the items listed below):

  • Manage incoming and outgoing referrals of the work queues
  • Includes the following tasks (but not limited) for the referrals
    • Transcribing orders from 1.0 and faxes
    • Authorizations
    • Scheduling
    • Completing notes and documentation from start to finish
    • Adding and tracking referrals in Camino
    • Scanning in appropriate results/consults and attaching to the order
    • Fax order and authorizations within our EMR system; Epic
    • Closing referrals
  • Manage all Fistulas and Graft referrals for the CKCC Patient Population to ensure an Optimal Start
  • Manage the Catheter List within Camino
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility, submit prior authorizations if needed, and obtain referrals when necessary
  • Ensuring patient is assigned a unit for home therapy training, if patient is not assigned then coordinate with the dialysis center
  • Other duties required to adequately fulfill the duties of your position include
    • Attend team meetings, phone conferences, and training as needed
    • Know, understand, and follow company guidelines, policies, and procedures policies
    • Know, understand, and comply with all clinical and business policies and procedures
    • Consistent, regular, punctual attendance as scheduled
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned

    Required Qualifications

    • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a clinical setting with front office responsibilities and customer service involvement
    • Proficiency using EHR software applications
    • Certified Medical Assistant
    • Bilingual in English/Spanish
    • Must be located in Clark County, Nevada

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience using EPIC

    • Excellent verbal and written communication
    • Ability to provide excellent customer service
    • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures
    • Ability to use good reasoning and judgement and react appropriately in emergency situations
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and coworkers

This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, open cabinets at various levels, bend, stand, stoop and drive as necessary.

    Beginning in 1973, Balboa has grown from two physicians to a comprehensive nephrology team of 52 board certified physicians and 8 advanced practitioners. On January 1, 2018, Balboa Nephrology Medical Group (BNMG) launched Balboa United, a full-service medical practice management services organization. From one small office, BNMG now has 24 clinical offices throughout San Diego, Imperial, Orange, and Riverside counties. In addition to office and hospital-based patient care, Balboa physicians manage the dialysis treatments of approximately 4,500 patients at 88 dialysis centers and conduct Nephrology based clinical research at 6 centers throughout Imperial and San Diego counties (California Institute of Renal Research).
