CLINICAL PHARMACY SPECIALIST

Flushing Hospital Medical Center is a 293-bed, not-for-profit Queens, New York based teaching hospital. Conveniently located in one of New York’s most culturally diverse communities, Flushing Hospital Medical Center offers a variety of services, including a Bariatric Surgical Service, Ambulatory Care Center, Women’s Health Center, Wound Care Center, and Chemical Dependence Unit. We are currently seeking an experienced Clinical Pharmacy Specialist BCIDP for an immediate full-time career opportunity. This position reports to the Director of Pharmacy and is responsible for developing and maintaining the clinical infectious disease pharmacy functions of the medical center and providing inpatient care activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Developing, coordinating, and adjusting Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP):
• Collaborating with infectious disease physicians, pharmacy clinical directors/managers, infection control, clinical laboratory staff and other professionals to develop and maintain an Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.
• Conducting rounds to provide pharmacotherapeutic management for patients.
• Participating in reporting ADEs to institutional committees.
• Documenting clinical activities including disease state management, general pharmacotherapeutic monitoring, pharmacokinetic monitoring, ADEs, education, and other patient care activities
• Presenting didactic lectures to health professional residents and students in critical care pharmacology and therapeutics.
• Acting as a liaison between pharmacy, nursing, and the medical staff to educate health professionals regarding current drug-related procedures, policies, guidelines, and pathways.
• Participating in training pharmacy students and residents through experiential critical care rotations.
• Implementing and maintaining departmental policies and procedures related to safe and effective use of drugs.
• Collaborates with nursing, medical staff, and hospital administration to prepare the staff for The Joint Commission survey and responds to any deficiencies identified.
• Provides consultation to hospital committees, such as Pharmacy Therapeutics and Nutrition, when critical care pharmacotherapy issues are discussed.
• Identifies how drug costs may be minimized through appropriate use of drugs and through implementation of cost-containment measures.
• Participates in quality assurance programs to enhance pharmaceutical care.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy
• Completion of PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency
• Completion of PGY2 Specialty residency in Infectious Diseases
• Skills in multi-disciplinary team involvement with direct patient care competency in Infectious Disease drug therapy desired.
• 2 years of clinical experience preferred.

REQUIREMENTS

License/Certifications:

• New York State Pharmacists License, or eligibility to sit for the exam.
• Board Certification in Infectious Diseases (BCIDP) or Board Certification in Critical Care (BCCCP) preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required (American Heart Association).

SALARY: $140,000 -$150,000 per year
