Description

Job Purpose & Position Overview

Provides direct patient care to a service population of approximately 10,000 people, using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization. The Emergency Department is staffed 24 hours per day/seven days a week and has a Physician on duty at all times. This is a direct tribal position for a full time nurse. This nurse will work in both the emergency department and inpatient department. The registered nurse will help the Wound Care/Infusion Clinic after hours when scheduled on inpatient.

 

Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraskas Human Resources core mission, vision, and values.
  • Assesses patients presenting for emergency care and triages based on history, physical assessment and chief complaint.
  • Functions as a primary care nurse completing comprehensive initial admission assessment.
  • Creates nursing care plan based on identified or remarkable initial objective assessment.
  • Provides interventions as ordered by the Medical Director, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant.
  • Provides comprehensive nursing care for acutely ill and/or critically ill patients.
  • Administers therapeutic measure as prescribed by the physician to include, but not limited to, medication administration, intravenous fluids, blood transfusions, treatment and maintains those measures taken which are ongoing in nature.
  • Operates and monitors specialized medical equipment.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and service providers to ensure optimal patient care services.
  • Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by a physician.
  • Cleans and bandages wounds.
  • Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks.
  • Records all care information concisely, accurately, and efficiently and in the appropriate format on the appropriate forms.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance for assigned shifts.
  • Completes orientation as required by supervisor.
  • Respects tribal/cultural traditions and practices. Adheres to and upholds HIPAA regulations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Associates Degree, Bachelors Degree, higher level degree or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
  • Must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • At least two (2) years of professional nursing experience, preferably with one (1) year in an Emergency Room setting.
  • Must have current certification in ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC and CPR.

Physical Requirements:

  • Normal to heavy work which includes the ability to lift up to 20-50 lbs. Lifting and/or transferring of patients may involve heavy lifting.
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office or medical equipment.
  • Manual dexterity with cooperatively free range of motion of all extremities including neck, fingers, hands, wrists, elbows, arms, shoulders, waist, legs, hips, knee joints, ankles, and feet is required.
  • Fine motor skills required.

Cognitive Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to effectively handle situations and people with tact, courtesy, respect and objectivity with excellent social interaction skills
  • Continually employ moral and ethical judgements
  • Works with minimal to no supervision
  • Reading, writing, calculating
  • Reasoning/Analysis

Language Requirements:

  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
  • Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.

 

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:

  • All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.
