Texas Oncology is looking for a ClinicalLicense Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) to join our team!  This position will support the The Woodlands, Texas locationTexas Oncology is the largest community oncology provider in the country and has approximately 600+ providers in 220+ sites across Texas and southeastern Oklahoma.  Our founders pioneered community-based cancer care because they believed in making the best available cancer care accessible to all communities, allowing people to fight cancer at home with the critical support of family and friends nearby. What does the License Practical Nurse do?  

Under general supervision, provides general nursing care for patients following established standards and practices. Promotes efficient patient flow, assists with patient care.  Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. 

 


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities: 

  • Provides general nursing care to patients.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during examination and procedures.
  • Observes, records, and reports patients condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
  • Administers prescribed medications as directed.
  • Screens patients for appropriate information. Instructs patients in collection of specimen samples for testing.
  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Performs EKG and oxymetry readings as required by physician.
  • Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions.
  • Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.
  • Maintains patient files, records and other information.
  • Initiate IV fluids and IV therapeutic medications in accordance with LPN/LVN state nurse practice act.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience:   

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing.
  • This is an entry level position requires at least 0-3 years experience as a practical nurse.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state.
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.  Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.  Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.  Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
